One of Jim teh Roofer’s long-term clients is a fairly successful designer and manufacturer of women’s apparel. He’s a bit of a maniac but also a very decent human being.
He’s got a staff attorney who is also a nice person…and a bit of a maniac. Got a list of changes she wants made to our most recent proposal late last night, many of which are simply pointless attorney-ish wankery. (And are hand-annotated via carpy penmanship, of course. A few make no sense whatsoever, as she knows squat about roofing…but complete ignorance rarely stops lawyers from doing such things.)
Jim -- bless his heart -- emailed me after he read the attorney’s email to say he’d pay me a reasonable extra chunk of change to do all the back-and-forth wrangling and revisions. ‘Cause he’s a good lad.
Happy Annoy-A-Pug Tuesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa!
Lawyers -- bless their hearts. I remember one client that had their corporate attorney look over my contract -- which was boiler-plate from the corporation whose software I was integrating into the client’s system. When I objected to some of the changes the attorney had made, the VP of Sales explained that those changes just had to stay in, because their corporate attorney always made those changes. I explained that my attorney always changed them back. We ended up not doing business because one of the changes regarded ownership of my intellectual property, without additional compensation.
Gotta love folks who think that engaging your services means they get to screw you on IP.
(That was not uncommon for a non-name composer in “Hollywood”. Lost some sales/gigs because I wouldn’t agree to getting completely hosed via a lowball “buyout” fee and/or giving up all of the publishing or performance.)
Bummer -- Glen Campbell checked-out today at 81 after battling Alzheimers for the past six years.
Wasn’t a fan of his solo stuff, but I admire the hell out of his studio work as part of The Wrecking Crew (who played on nearly countless hundreds of hit records in the ’60s and ’70s).
His studio work was a huge part of the soundtrack of my yout’.
Failure #6: The judge authorizing the search warrant should be reeducated on the Fourth Amendment.
No. Any judge who doesn’t already have an understanding of the 4th Amendment should be disbarred. And in this case, should face criminal, or at least civil, penalties.
Good morning, GN!
Po’, po’ thread pug. ๐

Sad news, but not unexpected.

“…the stores โsell items that are consistently found in indoor marijuana growing operations.โ
This just sounds like the claims that Richard Jewel had “bomb making materials” in his garage, being duct tape and nails. They have learned nothing.
I recently read about this case, Sven. Your link provided better information. Thank you.
