Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Tuesday back-to-work salutations, GN!

Mac --

That’s one possessive-looking kitteh.

Sven --

Thanks for the link yesterday; I’ll check it out later.

Continues to be dank and drizzly here thanks to Alberto; glad it’s weakened but we still won’t be seeing much sun before Saturday. On the plus side, we’re not expecting any heavy rains; just constant drear. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

BBL.

Update re the Rotherham abuse of young girls:

http://www.theweek.co.uk/uk-news/62397/councillors-and-police-had-sex-with-rotherham-abuse-victims

Two local councillors, one of whom is still serving, and a police officer have been accused of having sex with victims involved in the Rotherham child abuse scandal.

The South Yorkshire Police constable at the centre of the allegations is also alleged to have passed on information to gangs grooming young girls in the town. A second police officer has been accused of neglecting his duties after failing to report his colleague. Both claims are being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Jeebus.

A day without Starbucks. Sad.

Hahahahaha*schnort*hahahaha!

G’morning, Sven.

I guess my palate isn’t sophisticated enough to appreciate Starbucks coffee; it has always tasted burnt to me. (Except for their bottled mocha frappuccinos (sp?)…but those are a coffee-flavored dessert beverage AFAIC, not coffee.)

A day without Starbucks is like a day without…
overpriced, over-roasted coffee.

Happy possessive cat Tuesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!

Sven -- how did you day of gambling go?

Fatwa -- the UK is well and totally boned. I wonder if there is any hope left for it.

Good morning, Paddy. We went up to the Chumash casino in Santa Ynez up above Santa Barbara. They’ve done a lot of remodeling of the casino floor as well as adding a huge new hotel/spa thing. Sadly, the quality of their gaming has gone downhill. They used to have the most liberal 21 rules of any casino I’d ever been to -- not anymore. They used to have very good video poker games/payout tables -- not anymore. You used to be able to get decent food without waiting -- not anymore. Sad.

On the plus side, although I left a couple of hundred bucks behind, I played all day without ending up in a really deep hole. Was never up more than $150 at any one time, but was able to keep my losses under control.

The last time we went there, we said gee this place sucks now and we ought to go elsewhere. Trying it out again, yeah, this place still sucks. Sadly, it’s the closest one around, but next time we’ll just do Vegas, Palm Springs, or take a weekend and head further south to the SD area.

I used to work with some guys who would go to the casino in Commerce to play poker, but other than there, yeah, you’ve got a couple of hour drive to anyplace else.

G’day, Paddy.

I don’t know about the future of the UK either; I’m still pretty surprised that the residents of Rotherham and other towns with massive, ongoing Muslim grooming gang problems haven’t done shit to their local “Asians”, or the cowardly plod, councillors, social workers and others who have let their children be violated for decades.

I find that quite shocking, actually. (I have a good idea re how Brenda and I would react if anything like that happened to the grandkids and the authorities failed so utterly. I’d almost certainly go to prison.)

A day without Starbucks is like a day without…

• Hipsters ostentatiously using Apples’ latest devices.

• Surly film student barristas.

• Possible exposure to Hep-C or worse from the syringe-filled bathrooms.

• Preposterously expensive, undrinkable coffee.

My first taste of their caffeinated swill was a free sample when a new Von’s Pavilions opened near my apartment in W.L.A. with a Starbucks counter. Given the hype about their coffee, I was sort of shocked at how bad it was.

The only other time I had their coffee was at a different location years later; it was as terrible as I’d remembered. Their success is a real head-scratcher to me.

My introduction to Starbucks (and almost the only time I ever have it) was when someone brought a couple of cartons of it to some meeting. It’s a step up from (most) gas station coffee. I have to admit that they’ve done a masterful job of marketing to convince so many people that their’s is the place to be.

It’s all in the marketing with Starbucks. They’ve done a fantastic PR/customer service job.

Interesting. ABC cancels top rated show, Roseanne. I guess there’s no room for apologies when you tweet something stupid? Unless you comment badly about Trump, Jews, Christians, Conservatives, gun owners…

There’s these two doves out front that can be best described as “special”. They’ve been trying to build a nest on top of the porch security light for maybe 6 weeks now, and they just can’t get the hang of it. The male keeps bringing twigs and stuff and it just keeps ending up on the ground underneath. At times they give up on the porch light idea and try to build something on the rack on top of Mrs Sven’s jeep. That doesn’t work any better.

They are inseparable, but like I said: special. The female today dropped two eggs on top of the trashcan by the garage.

I think maybe they are waiting for me to build them a house.

When I used to watch sports with my Dad, he’d often just shake his head sadly, reminisce about the teams from the olden days, and then gravely announce no matter what sport, that “they” had ruined the game. “They” was never a race thing -- it was always a privileged athlete thing.

Last night I watched Game 1 of the Stanley Cup between Vegas and Washington in Vegas and watching the opening ceremony all I could think of was “they’ve ruined the game.” Full blown Vince McMahon/WWE type of affair. Really just awful.

That was truly awful. Whatever happened to celebrating the game and the teams?
