Maaaaaan…that’s a pretty fast -- and fearless -- turtle.
Had a little excitement early this morning: earthquake at ~04:15 which woke my ass up. Epicenter reported to be near Decatur, TN along the New Madrid Fault. Initial 4.4 jolt; I didn’t feel the 3.3 aftershock but we heard it.
Whee!
Read that “regulators” in CA are considering a new tax on text messages…and that they’re considering making it retroactive for the last five years.
Watched this again the other night -- one of my favorite horror movies, but then I don’t like many. If you haven’t watched it, I heartily recommend it. Came out in 2001.
I was surprised to find I don’t have it in my collection. I remember having it so it must have been on VHS tape. I only remember it vaguely, It did not make much impression. I think I did not understand the premise. I ordered it on Netflix to give it a try. It is not available now so it might be a while. Several of the sequels are on You-tube but not the original, unless it’s paid for. I am surprised to see it is Coppola. I may have missed something. That has happened before, I got a bad impression of a movie and did not keep it, then later I saw something that caught me and I ended up getting it again. Some favorites went through this. Now I keep everything, just in case. Thank you for mentioning it.
I have watched Near Dark many times. I tend to do that with movies I like. I recently got on an older movie kick and watched The Prisoner of Zenda several times. I have seen that countless times. I have dug out a few others too. I watched The Key for the over and over after not watching it for some time. It has William Holden and Trever Howard, and Sophia Loren in it. I was actually looking for some submarine deck gun action and was reminded why I was interested in the movie in the first place. I might try showing it to Elena. She is not big on war movies but she does get caught up in the human stories and that is the focus of that one.
Earthquakes are certainly less-frequent ’round here, but the New Madrid Seismic Zone is responsible for four of the largest ‘quakes in recorded North American history.
Happy Wednesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, Sven, and Mac!
A 4.4 quake? That’s enough to wake you up (but not enough to get you up out of bed). I’m sure it was a new sensation to most everyone in the affected area.

Tumbrels. Gibbets. Lime pits. Fire.
Of course we are, Fatwa. You don’t get to be the greatest state in the union by not being creative on the revenue side of things.
Earthquake? Wow. Unusual back there, isn’t it?

And definitely my favorite vampire movie:
That is a good one. I’ve watched it several times.
What do you think of Jeepers Creepers?
