Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Thursday salutations, Wheelizens.

Never leave the key in the chuck.

Mac’s thread pic reminds me of the (likely Craftsman) electric drill Dad had when I was around five years old. Looked like a prop from the old Buster Crabbe “Flash Gordon” serials. Ginormous, chrome-plated, generated lots of ozone.

And a chuck key tied securely to the power cord.

IIRC, you could see sparks through the ventilation slits in the case; I was a little intimidated by the thing.

BBL.

The “Drill o’ Doom” looked quite similar to this one:

Sure Happy It’s Thursday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!

Mac -- a pun on a Thursday morning? Well played!

Fatwa -- my Dad had a 1/4″ Rockwell drill like the one you described, in fact I still have it. He also had a 1/2″ drill with a spade handle that had low speed and high torque. My brother snagged that one decades ago and probably hasn’t used it in as many years.

It looked something like this:
