The air is still really Smokey and bad here. No flames in the immediate vicinity though. Still strong winds.

Not quite sure what to do today about work. Maybe try to go in and work a few hours or just stay here and hunker down.

Sorry I didn’t “see” you while I was typing my first comment, Sven.

Shit, man…the LAUSD SFV schools are closed; may as well just hunker down, IMO. (Plus, I suspect the roads will be a worse mess than usual.)

Happy Friday, Fat Cats!!1!

Sven --

Hope Mrs. Sven made it home safely last night and that you were able to take advantage of your neighbor’s offer of sammiches and electricity.

LambiePieK had no idea your power was off when you rang last night, else she’d not have taunted you that “here in GA we have electricity 24/7”. (She really does feel a bit carpy about that.) 🙁

Also hope the O’Fs arrived home with a minimum of fuss.

Criminy…what a clusterfark CA is.

Hokay…have to get started on my assigned Russian Asset duties for today; BBL.

but this is the new normal in California. I wonder how many more people will flee the state once this year is done.

if you keep handling your snake Mac, you’ll go blind.

Hi, Mac!

Glad to read things are relatively quiet in your neck of the woods.

…just a bunch of snake handling rednecks.

“PUT DOWN THE WESTERN COTTONMOUTH AND STEP AWAY FROM IT!”

Can’t have the peasants enjoying clean energy, reducing emissions without suffering privation. Might spoil them to expect to rule like Party members.

I knew that Berkeley had banned the use of gas in new construction; now they’re talking about the whole damned state?!?

Too bad a state government can’t be declared non compos mentis…and have “red flag” laws used against them. 👿

Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good [checks watch] morning, West Coast edition, Fatwa, Sven, and Mac!

We left Healdsburg about 9:30 yesterday morning. The smoke was thick and the ash was falling down like light snow. We drove south-east to Sonoma and stopped at a creamery to buy some local cheeses -- primarily aged Monterrey Jack. Wonderful! Tastes like asiago or aged romano. The side trip was to avoid traffic in Silicone Valley. We then headed south to Paso Robles -- the trip down the 101 is much nicer than taking the 5. We stopped in Paso Robles for dinner -- again to avoid evening traffic in LA -- and learned the 5 had been shut down north of Santa Clarita due to the fire in that area. Really glad we decided on the scenic route! The smoke was pretty noticeable in Camarillo and further east. Got home about 10:00 pm. My sinuses are complaining loudly about all of the stress they’ve been through.

Now for today’s rant:

Last Saturday I was looking at mortgage interest rates and ended up checking my credit score through NerdWallet. I noticed an account that I didn’t recognize (Capitol One), but Mrs. Paddy was gone all that day and I figured I couldn’t do anything about it until we returned from Norcal anyway, so I put it on hold. While checking my email this morning, I found one from MasterCard notifying me of a new address on my credit profile. For the past three hours I have been on the phone, on hold, or on the websites of MasterCard, Experian, Capital One, and TD Bank. It appears that I’ve been the victim of identity theft. Fortunately, the Capital One credit account that was opened (by someone in Jamaica, NY) hasn’t been used, even though it was opened in August. That account has been closed, a fraud alert has been placed on my credit report, and I’m waiting for a deputy to show up so I can file an identity theft report. I seriously expected to be able to take care of that part online, or at least over the phone -- why waste a deputy’s time with a personal visit? I’m still trying to reach TD Bank to get the credit inquiry removed and to make sure they don’t open an account.

Welcome home.

Criminy, Paddy…hope you can get that all resolved soonest.

Wonder if the reason for a deputy’s visit is some arcane need to positively ID you. (And it probably wouldn’t hurt to have an official popo report in case any other stuff shows up in the future.)

I spoke with the deputy (he just left) and he said they can currently only take one type of report over the phone or online. The entire reason for filing the report is that Experian won’t remove the NY address (which is in Queens, btw) from my account without a police report.

A new Florida Man achievement:

https://www.news965.com/news/local/florida-man-poops-court-you-won-believe-what-happened-next/dqMyrjkP7AIeTSV74wqebI/

Court officials say a Florida man defecated during his criminal trial and tried to throw his feces at the judge, but that’s not all!

The Miami Herald reports 33-year-old Dorleans Philidor was in Miami-Dade Circuit Court Friday on charges of burglary and grand theft.

SoCal Edison came through -- power back on, at least until the next “wind event” which begins Sunday.
