One of my “problem children” sent the following email to his property manager -- who forwarded it to me -- on Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. his local time:
Last night I turned on my ceiling fan for the first time since last year, it fell off the ceiling and crashed to the floor nearly killing me -- ALSO IT WAS FILLED WITH WATER!
I thought the new roof material was supposed to stop all leaks, it seems it has not. I am paying $2400 for WHAT? the same area leaked 2 years ago then it was fixed, now it seems the same problem has re-occurred -- if this cannot be repaired I want a refund of any money I have paid and a cancellation of the remaining balance for this work. Also I need to be
reimbursed for the broken fan caused by this water leak. Also you have never responded to my question about chimney screens, get off you ass and do your job -- please.
IF I DO NOT GET A RESPONSE TO THIS LETTER WITHIN 24 HOURS I WILL FILE A LEGAL COMPLAINT AGAINST THIS HOA AND WESTCOM -- DO YOU HEAR ME?????
Oddly, the photo he sent of said ceiling fan -- sitting on a wood floor with two broken blades -- had no water visible…which seems a little inconsistent with his allegations.
Jim left him a voicemail message within an hour of the property manager receiving the above and forwarding it to me, as well as stopping by his unit within three hours. Nobody answered the door, so Jim left a business card with his cell #. We reported this all via email to the property manager Wednesday evening.
As of 19:15 L.A. time last night, Jim had still gotten no response. This will be duly reported via email to the property manager a little later this morning. He got a response well-within 24 hours and failed to act.

It hasn’t rained here in at least a couple of weeks -- odd that the fan could have retained that much water, enough water to apparently cause it to fall and almost kill a Valley person.
Does this resident have cats? If yes, I’d say case closed.
Curious, is this resident a writer but working as a barista/valet/waiter until his screenplay, which several studios are interested in, gets turned into a movie?
When you think about it, even if there were no roof whatsoever, it rained for a week straight, and the entire ceiling collapsed, the ceiling fan should still be in place, properly mounted either directly to a ceiling joist, or mounted between two ceiling joists.
Until otherwise shown, I’m skeptical about this fan business.
(Although the part about a previous leak may be true, as it appeared there was corrosion on the top of the bezel in the photo we were forwarded. JimCo never performed any work on the building until last September, so we don’t know the history -- if any -- of this alleged leak.)
This particular yammerhead homeowner is -- at least when we did the job last September -- October was allegedly some sort of “internet sports writer” who was terribly concerned about potential interruptions to his satellite and/or internet service when we demolished and replaced his old roof.
We manged to avoid doing that, which was a PITA (especially his improperly-mounted dish).
Additionally, he doesn’t seem to take care of maintenance items on his unit, as he had the far-and-away most deteriorated HVAC ducting out of 42 townhomes…as well as a 40+ year-old HVAC unit on his roof. I’m legit surprised we didn’t have problems with the latter, as we have to lift HVACs to roof underneath them and units that old almost always have very brittle wiring, gas lines and other components.

Sven, that Easter Passion looks very nice. I’ve heard Nikki Daniels sing before -- when she was a young woman just leaving home for her first Broadway show and she was stunning even then. They haven’t dealt with the end of Christ’s life yet, but, dv8 and I are huge fans of the show “The Chosen”. You can see scenes on YouTube and if you like it you download the app “The Chosen” to watch it. We like to binge it. Take a look at it. I can’t begin to tell you how I love that show.
Internet sports writers cannot have their services interrupted because they have to watch sports round the clock, 24/7, it’s their J.O.B. Yes, I knew a guy with a job like that. His was actually more legit than internet writing but he also seemed to get off track and let his 24/ watching and collating data get in the way of the other, more useful parts of His job.
Waiting for a meeting today with my boss after he threw me and another fully under the bus yesterday in another meeting. I was furious yesterday, but bit my tongue and stayed mostly quiet. Not quite sure what I’ll do today. I’m right in this case -- my facts are all in order and I’m advocating for the end user, not management -- but that means little if my goal is to stay employed.
It’s a conundrum. Or not. This morning I’m having a hard time giving a carp or even a cat.

Postscript. Meeting over. Kept to an even keel more or less but was quite blunt. My boss hemmed and hawed a bit, took some responsibility to just get me to shut up. My bottomline is that I’ll move forward with he wants, but I want certain things in writing and won’t move ahead without them.
I see another insurrection by Trump supporters is happening at the Capitol. One dead. They best put those fences back up and bring in more National Guard.
No word on whether AOC is still hiding in the bathroom.
One police officer dead; suspect dead. The attacker was armed with his vehicle and a knife, so sadly the gun control people have to stand down and pull back all their fundraising emails and tweets.
Just speculating here, but a man armed with a knife attacks a govt building on one of the holiest days of the Christian calendar…must be a Proud Boy, Oathkeeper, or Threeper.
I’m sure his actions, like those of the two black girls who carjacked and killed the Muslim Pakistani immigrant, were caused by white supremacy and systemic racism.
