At work it’s time for our Spring Professional Learning Community (PLC) day, virtual edition. I’m sure most of the content will not be applicable to me, or the rest of the people in my department, but at least no one can complain about having to drive into the office for a mostly wasted day.
I can imagine siblings launching cats at each other with the device Mac shared with us -- and the damage that would insue.
In the Chauvin case, the defense rested this morning. State now doing rebuttal. Don’t know if their case was strong enough for an acquittal, but one way or the other this wraps up this week with jury deliberations beginning next week.
I did as well, but so it goes. They’ve fought the state to a standstill, but that’s not likely to be good enough given the external pressures to convict. Hung on all counts or not guilty on the most serious charges; guilty on the least serious is my guess.
After dv8’s post about admin taking too long. I was affected as well. I began to explore what might be the problem. Nothing showed up about links or redirections to the wp-admin page. Nothing in the error logs.
In my discovery I found that we had over 45,000 registered users. When I set up TSW I made all registered users “subscribers” unable to post unless they were upgraded to “editors” by me, thinking that would discourage spam and troll users from registering/using posting because only “editors” could post. It didn’t.
I tried to delete those users but WordPress only allows the deletion of 20 users at a time. So I installed an add-in that allowed unlimited user deletion by type (subscribers). Unlimited? No. The script times out at around 1,200 users. So, yesterday I deleted all 45,000 users 1,000+ at a time. While deleting those users another 200+ users were registering.
Once all users were deleted I changed the access to forbid registrations. This should not affect (notice I did not say impact because I hate that word) existing users. At this point no one is able to register.
If someone contacts you because they want to be a part of Teh Squeak please email me to have them manually added.
After I deleted those users, the WP-admin function has become very fast, unlike before.
We do appreciate the wonderful digs. Sorry you have to work so hard to keep us healthy and happy, it seems a chore that is above your pay grade, except for that part that you provide it all to us free and clear. Thank you again.

Wow, I really expected a longer defense presentation.
