Hi, Fatwa -- hope today is an “Okay” day for both you and Brenda.

Thinking about when Brandon leaves or is forced out of office. If the Dems somehow retain control of one or both houses of Congress in November, then I think they let him struggle along and pin their hopes on a 2024 savior. If they do lose one or both in a few months, then Brandon is gone before the new Congress is sworn in.

Why? It’s all about the VP, not POTUS. Dems may have some small tiny hope that Harris can turn things around and be a viable candidate in 2024, but they want an insurance policy. That policy is the next VP. Whoever replaces Harris has to be confirmed by a majority vote of both houses of Congress. The 25th Amendment states in Section 2:

Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

It would be tricky because if Harris becomes POTUS, then the Senate is tied at 50-50 without a VP tiebreaker, but they’ll play the “for the good of the country” card and some Repub senator will cave and vote for her replacement. The Dems best hope in 2024 is convincing Harris not to run and then having a new VP in place with two years experience, to run. I think Newsom is applying for that job and that’s why he’s trying to gain more national recognition now.

If they lose Congress, then they lose their chance to choose who they want in the VP slot and I don’t think they want to risk that.

And that’s my deep speculation for today.

A lot of times, these theories don’t pan out. I’m not sure why. I remember thinking Nixon would nominate Barry Goldwater, but he nominated Gerald R. Ford, who no one had really heard of.

Hi, Dv8 -- a lot can happen and a lot going on behind the scenes. That’s just my best guess based on nuthin’ more than my view of things as they now exist. I’ve been wrong more than right when examining the political landscape, but I’d put money on Brandon not being around next January should the Dems lose Congress in November.

Back from the Big Route.

Hi everyone. I dropped by the store and bought some more bones and stuff. I think the home made bone broth is worthy of cooking.

I have pork bones and chicken fat simmering. I dry brined some chicken leg quarters. So I’ll barbeque them tomorrow, and then add the chicken bones to the broth and let them cook for another 24 hours.

That should be pretty good bone broth. I may have to add fat and collagen though, Not sure these pork bones will have enough.

I’ve grown fond of powdered bone broth. Stores well -- tastes OK.

Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, Sven, and dv8 (and Harper!)!

Fatwa -- let me echo Sven’s thoughts regarding Brenda and you.

Sven -- I’ve also heard whispers of the Dems replacing Harris, then using the 25th Amendment to get rid of Joey Choo-choo. How they would get Harris to step down is never mentioned. I can’t see her doing that “for the good of the party”.

dv8 -- I hope your bone broth turns out.

Teh Older will be starting a new job next month as a natural resources specialist with the U.S. Forest Service. He’ll be working on regulatory issues, which is an area of weakness on his resume. He gets full benefits, unlike with his current position. We’re all pretty excited.

Good on Teh Older -- sounds like he’s building a nice career.

I was watching videos of Harris delivering he usual word salad, but what strikes me more when she speaks is not the idiocy of her words, but rather her hand gestures that are completely inappropriate and out of sync with both her words and her body language.

Nobody, not even Italians, wave their hands every single time they say something.
