Happy Baturday, Gerbil Nation!

The graduation/promotion ceremonies went well yesterday and everyone seemed to have a good time. Last year, one of the sports centers that a lot of our middle-school students set up a hospitality room right next to the room holding the graduation ceremony and had a bar going. Families went back and forth between that room and the graduation area and we had to stop people from bringing their drinks in. This year we were at a different venue and put up a sign -- no alcohol beyond this -- point. That sports center also didn’t have a hospitality room. As a result, the 8th grade promotion was much calmer than last year.

It was a good day, but very long.

For the past couple of weeks I’ve let my students know when final exams were (M-Th at 10am and 2pm) and shared a Google sheet so they could sign up for a time. For two weeks I’ve been hounding those who hadn’t signed up yet and reminding those who had. On Wednesday, a student didn’t show up to their scheduled time. When they were ten minutes late I email them and copied their parent and their supervising teacher. Nothing. Yesterday, late morning, during the HS graduation, I get an email from this student asking if they can take their final right then. I directed them to another teacher who was proctoring exams that day. I wonder if they ever took the final? I’ll check on Monday.

Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow?

Especially if all your life you’ve been given extra chances.

Looks like another summer of love is beginning in LA this weekend.
