Still windy here, but power is on. No fires in our immediate area, but further north is a mess with many structures destroyed and no containment. The winds are supposed to die down tonight which should let them get a handle on this one. I cancelled a doctor’s appt today cuz if something does take off in our area, I can’t leave Mrs Sven alone to handle things. Although she wouldn’t be really “alone” as the cat is here and he’d likely be a big help.

My morning started out in an interesting way. I fired up my work computer and had a bunch of emails and chats waiting for me from last night. I had noticed a couple of emails on my phone late last night, but ignored them, due to the time. It appears that one of my students had their school email hacked and quite a few disturbing emails -- some with attachments -- were sent out to all the school contacts this kid had. You can find on the web userscripts that allow you to automate interaction with a web site. You can also find ones that will go through your online curriculum for you and get whatever grade you want. It looks like this kid was trying to get one of those scripts and that’s the source of the hack. His email account has been suspended and it’s now up to admin to deal with the situation.
