SiL and I got the office flooring completely installed yesterday; he’s a wonder. 😉
Today: stainable wood filler, orbital floor sanding and lots of vacuuming; whee!. (Glad we purchased teh “tactical shop vac” a few weeks back; it really sucks. And the detachable blower was very handy for tidying-up part of the garage so that trim and shelving could be painted.)
Careful with the orbital floor sander, Fatwa. If it’s one of those large rental units that have multiple rotating heads, they cut fast at the start, then the discs quickly wear down to nothing. It’s easy to end up with lots of cupping, which really shows up when you apply the finish.
Even with 20-grit, it cuts pretty slowly; SiL guesstimates about 10-20 times slower than a belt sander using equivalent grit. And it seems we’d actually have to work pretty hard to create divots; no worries about cupping as it’s a big rectangular pad.
