I find it funny to listen to the wailing and gnashing of teeth over Obamacare and the medical device manufacturer taxes. Back when this thing was getting debated, that industry was all behind universal health insurance and the anticipated increase in customers for their products. They successfully knocked the tax down from around 6% to 2.3% and they were all OK with it. Now, oh noes, it will destroy the industry; let’s find someone else to make up that shortfall in taxes.
Because I’m a giver, here’s what’s at stake in California over the next two weeks re: guns. All these bills sit ready for signature on Gov Moonbeam’s desk:
AB 48 (Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley) β Bans magazine repair kits
AB 170 (Steven Bradford, D-Gardena) β Prohibits businesses from getting assault weapon permits
SB 374 (Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento) β Bans detachable magazines in rifles
SB 567 (Hannah-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara) β Redefines βshotgunsβ
SB 755 (Lois Wolk, D-Davis) β Expands list of crimes resulting in ban on owning firearms
AB 1131 (Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley) β Increases prohibition periods after credible threat of violence
AB 180 (Rob Bonta, D-Alameda) β Allows city of Oakland to pass its own gun regulations
AB 500 (Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco) β Allows Department of Justice additional time to run background checks
SB 299 (Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord) β Requires lost or stolen firearm reporting
SB 683 (Marty Block, D-San Diego) β Requires gun buyers to take a firearm safety class and earn a safety certificate.
SB 475 (Mark Leno, D-San Francisco) β Requires county approval for gun shows at the Cow Palace
AB 169 (Roger Dickinson, D-Sacramento) β Limits transfer of unsafe handguns
AB 711 (Anthony Rendon, D-Lakewood) β Bans use of lead ammunition
I think he’ll sign most but not all. And then he’ll trumpet it as some huge compromise with gun owners.
Good morning/afternoon, Gerbil Nation!
Mrs. Paddy returns home this evening, so I’ve got a busy day of cleaning up.
Is it just me, or does it seem like the Democrats secretly run the Republican Party? How else would you explain their behavior, especially in California? Sure, they win some races, but not enough to really matter, and nationally, if they do win, they make sure not to upset the plans of the Democrats.
Hope Mrs. Paddy had a good week in Joisey and that her return trip is also uneventful (and on-time).
I think it’s abundantly clear that mental defectives and criminals run both major parties.
The Libertarian Party is run by disorganized idiots more concerned with purity than actually winning.

Sentimental Saturday. Started off with a “Celebration of Life’ ( read “funeral”) for a 25 yo buddy of #1Son. The tears of pain and loss were, as always, mixed with laughter in the telling of stories, hugs, seeing friends one rarely gets to see, seeing a community come together to comfort each other.
and then to work where we are preparing for our cook’s wedding tomorrow -- so more tears -- of joy, wistfulness -- and more stories and more laughter as a community came together to help a young couple start a new life together.
I shall wallow in sentimentality for awhile and hold close the love shown today.
Happy Caturday, GN!
Aside from that, I got nuthin; off to make moar kawfee.
*Mutters unintelligibly*
Sigh. I thought you’d have learned by now, Fatwa, that Monopoly and Manischewitz wine don’t mix!
Got about 4 hours sleep and then up all night with a headache. Teh old body is betraying me and more lately.
Congrats, Jerrie, on once again winning the captioning contest! That is quite a run you are on !
This is one of my favorite AoS posts: if you havent read it, give it a shot:

I saw that one the other day; nummy!
Dammit! I keep getting that wrong; teh Manischewitz gets mixed with club soda. (Which explains why all of the Monopoly money and deeds were soggy.)
Sorry to hear about your headache and commensurate lack o’ slumber.
Belated congrats to Jerry for sweeping yet another captioning contest.
That Jerry; he’s like a god or something when it comes to captioning. Sigh. Sniff.
Bacchus?
More like maybe a satyr; what’s that, a demigod or something?
This guy? π
Well, Jerrie is a sharp dresser.
Well played, sir!

These, as well.
