A week from today, the LA Kings will play the Anaheim Ducks…at Dodger Stadium. Wonder what the temperature will be that day?
Another week of work done. And while I’m grateful for the job (and teh money), after 8 months here, I don’t see it as a place to call home for the long term.
Slow weekend planned out here. Chores and such and then the games tomorrow. I’m going with NE and SF to advance.
Home, Home, Home, Home, Home, Home, Home. I’m home!
I swear, it seemed by the time we finally made it back to the hotel on Thursday night (11pm), the internal homing beacons turned on, and that was the only thing on my mind. That, and “G-d, I hope I don’t sleep through the wake-up call!” (which the guy at the front desk said wasn’t a wake-up call, it was reveille).
Despite all my reservations, projections, and anticipation, my boss-boss turned out to be really quite easy to travel and work so closely with (he WAS high-maintenance Monday before the ball got rolling, though).
He used some of his upgrades to get me into First Class on the way home, too, so I really was over-spun for no good reason.
The rest of the week was all-go, no-quit: in the lobby at 6:30am and not back to the hotel until 9:30pm -- at the earliest. We met and had meals with a ton of people we do business with, all of whom were extremely nice, funny, and genuinely good people.
We had some issues -- like the flat tire on the rental car on Tuesday. We lucked out in time, place, and weather for that one; it was sunny, in the 40s, and we weren’t on the freeway when we realized it was flat. But trying to get the car exchanged through Dollar was painful in the extreme.
From Wednesday on, the weather was brutal -- and of course, everyone said, “You should have been here last week when the Polar Vortex came through!” Um, no, thankyouverymuch. O_o
The Auto Show was pretty cool -- and pretty packed considering we were there on “industry preview” days, I can’t imagine what it’s like when it’s open to the public. We got everything *I* wanted to get, and then some, including cars I’d read only last month that the manufacturer’s had decided NOT to produce. Psych!
Oh, and fvckin’ Biden was there on Thursday, making actually getting to the parking structure a PITA. Boss-boss saw a phalanx of SS guys, otherwise we saw no other evidence of the Veep’s presence, thank G-d.
It was SO good to hit the road home from the College Station airport. Even though it’s all dormant and grey out here in the country, it’s STILL beautiful to me. And when I pulled up to my driveway, there was the finished gate, “Mutt Haven” emblem and all! Mr. X never said a word about it so it was a complete surprise. I flove it! (I’ll post a pic later)
Looks like y’all stayed safe and mostly sane while I was gone, and that’s a goodness.
I think I may have a name for Fatwa’s new business venture, though: “Concierge Snark Cart Service”?
That’s the broad brush tale of the trip, more as I recall it. BBIAW.
Even though the winds have died down, the heat persists (currently 77°F at 4:30 pm) and the humidity has reached single digits (8%). 8% humidity and my sinuses are going nuts.
And my skin itches.
Dogs!
Good morning!!!

*mwah!*
Happy Caturday, GN!
Being utterly out-of-touch wherein sports are concerned, I had no freakin’ idea that they could set-up an ice hockey rink at Dodger Stadium; wee-yurd.
Manners…hai, TeX and Sven!!1!
And welcome home, TeX; t’anks for teh trip summary.
I like the little black kitty….
Thought of you and TeX when I saw that. 😉
Good morning, guys, and welcome home X! How cool: you got to see Joe Biden! Teh highlight of your trip I’m sure.
I wonder if his automobile advice is as sage as his gun and home defense council.
Glad you are home safe, Tex. “Sane”? What is this “sane” you speak of? We’re gerbils.
Good day, Gerbil Nation!
A big ‘Howdy’ and welcome home, TeX! Glad you survived the journey unscathed.
Hey, Sven, Fatwa, and Mac!
For Jerry:
You know you’re pretty important when even your sh!t is classified.
Mine’s not classified…but it requires a Class 3 license. 😉
