I hope the decking went well, Fatwa -- it can be a rough job getting a house ready for sale. Been there, and Rosie wore a lot of the exterior paint in the process.
It’s been a good weekend so far. Because the summer’s been so mild, we are AWASH in tomatoes and cucumbers. We’ve never had a quandary about which type of salad to make first, because you run the risk of one going bad while you’re enjoying the other.
Anyway, I wrote an ASPCA-type email to a friend, asking her to take our overrun of tomatoes off my hands. She countered with an offer to teach me how to can them -- which was perfect. I’m not a fan of skinned tomatoes, so we went with salsa. Off to the side on her salsa recipe she had “Lime?” written. So we added just a touch. It livened up the already delicious tomatoes and I can’t wait for Mr. X to try it (the cans have to sit undisturbed for 24 hours, I’ll get them this evening).
At the end of the afternoon, and a lot of noodling over gardens and the ability to garden, we agreed I’d grow, and then we’d can (and she’s got ALL the tools including the s00per huge [and expensive] pressure cooker) -- so deal.
Later, Mr. X and I had a BBQ we had to make an appearance at, and contrary to history, everybody was a lot more sober than usual so it was a good time.
Oh! Oh! AND yesterday we had another full-on skwirrel Ninja raid on the last peach tree. This one was probably going to come in around August and all the fruit was green. Super green.
Sometime between the time Mr. X got home from the fire station and I got home from my friend’s, they. were. gone.
And the dogs were outside!
I think I know what we’re doing with the old game camera next season. Unbelievable.
Anyway … time for me to get busy with chores and figure out a way to keep the rest of the cucumbers in a usable state after I select some for a “small” salad.

Staining / painting went okay; just didn’t get as far as one might have hoped. CurbAppealK and I wound-up leaving about 2:30 yesterday, largely as I hit the wall; we’ll be going back to do more. At least it was a chance to spend some time with Mama and PapaK as well as SiL, BiL and nephew, all of whom I’m rather fond.)
