Happy over-the-election-hump day, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa!

Well, as expected, most of the people I voted for, lost. California continues to elect Democrats for state-wide offices and votes to spend more money that we don’t have. Honestly, where do they think the money comes from to pay off bond issues? There was a county proposition put on the ballot by the Board of Supes that said, basically “Shall the State Fair Political Practices Commission be the County ethics watchdog”. It passed overwhelmingly. The problem is, the state had already ruled that the FPPC only deals with state-wide issues and no, we’re not going to let it handle your county ethics problems. California is a prime example of what happens when voters don’t pay attention and don’t think.

Drive-by:

Hai, Paddy --

I’m really not sure yet what to make of yesterday’s election, beyond thinking that voters are obviously pissed-off at a whole passel of things and -- properly, IMHO -- went to the polls with a throw-the-bums-out attitude. The only “mandate” which ought be assumed by all the winners is don’t be a farking bum!

It is almost certain this message will not be received and properly understood.

Have you noticed that it’s always the Republicans who are told to “reach across the aisle” to get things accomplished and not the Democrats?

Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

And they usually do it, because Party of Stupid.

As best I can figure, yesterday’s election sent one message: stop Obama!

The smart money says the GOP will not do so, but I sure wouldn’t mind being wrong.

Henry Waxman’s old congressional district elected another liberal, Ted Lieu (termed out in the Assembly, 4 years in the State Senate). Press footage of his election HQ at the Proud Bird showed lots of yarmulkes in attendance. He felt confident in his ability to “get things done” because he had lots of experience “reaching across the aisle” and working with Republicans. I wonder how he’ll feel being on the other side of the power balance during that “reach across”?

Wish I could think of a “Jooooos eating Christmas dinner at a Chinese restaurant ’cause it’s the only place open” gag.

*Hangs head*

From his time in the CA Assembly?!?!? SRSLY?!? Har!

Yes, seriously. I would make some comment about his ‘reach across’ in the CA assembly being more like a ‘reach around’, but that would be in poor taste. I do hope, however, that he learns what it feels like to be on the other end of the imbalance of power. Without lube, of course.

It would be nice if the phrase “Ow…quit it!!” became much more common on Capitol Hill. 😉

I didnt hear Obama’s speech/presser/whatever today, but I imagine he was once again hugely disappointed in us racists rubes in America. And he hopes that everyone but him will learn to get along , work hard for the American people, and get his agenda done.

When you’ve lost Chris Matthews, you’ve lost it all.

Heya, Sven!

I couldn’t be arsed to watch it either; have it on good authority teh presser was largely self-referential…as always.

I’d expect somebody will have an edited “lowlights” version up by tomorrow (if not sooner).
