Hope that Teh Youngest is handling things as best he’s able; I concur with what Mac said yesterday and Clan O’Furnijure remains in our thoughts.
Our country seems to be becoming more and more collectively daft. This has been building for a long time and will probably get a lot uglier; wish I had some confidence that it’ll all work out okay…but I rather doubt it.
There’s been pretty much no anti-Muslim backlash here ever, but it’s probably coming. And I expect it will be quite fearsome; awakening the “sleeping giant” and all.
AUSTIN, Texas – Incoming Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is sending a message … about cupcakes.
As Miller’s first act as the state’s head of agriculture, he’s granting amnesty for cupcakes in the state’s schools, according to BigCountryHomepage.com.
“We want families, teachers and school districts in Texas to know the Texas Department of Agriculture has abolished all rules and guidelines that would stop a parent from bringing cupcakes to school,” miller said in a press release.
Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning Sven and Fatwa!
I appreciate all the kind thoughts and prayers. Teh Younger is in the ‘not thinking/not feeling stage’ at the moment and is fully aware of the various stages he’s going to go through. He has JtB’s contact info for when he’s ready to talk.
On a cheerier note: This link is to the Facebook video of a young woman performing Stevie Ray Vaughn’s version of “Scuttle Buttin'” on a gayageum, which is the Korean analog of a koto.
It tickled me the first time I watched it; enjoyed it a couple of more times, too. She really “gets” the idiom, has great chops and I was impressed that she could play that instrument so aggressively.
All in all, I was pleasantly startled. 😉
Wonder what a gayageum would sound like with some guitar effects on it doing the same tune? (Probably not as cool, but it’d be interesting as a contrast.)
Good morning,
Thoughts and prayers for your boy, Paddy.
Nice bunny. I can say “nice bunny” right without offending any muslims?
I think our very existence offends Muslims; in my case, the feeling is assuredly mutual.
Friday salutations from frigid Larryville, GN!
Hai, Sven!

Mac’s thread GIF is pretty squee-worthy. 😉
As usual, Ace nails it:
“Obviously, the most important thing we must protect against right now is anti-Muslim backlash.”

Appreciate the update, Paddy; also glad you thought of JtB (which I feel stupid for not having done myself).
I had mentioned JtB’s EMS ministry to Teh Younger at some point in the past few months and yesterday he asked me for JtB’s phone number.

IMHO, she plays the ass off it. 😉

That was wild, Fatwa! Thanks for the link!

NFL playoffs tomorrow; I wonder how many athletes will write “je suis charlie” on their sneakers or arms?
Fewer than the number of media outlets that published the Charlie Hebdo cartoons.
