No official cause of death was listed for Emerson, but police sources told Billboard the cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the head. Apparently, Emerson was depressed over a worsening — and irreversible — neurological condition that was costing him the use of his hands.
It’s terribly sad that he -- apparently -- didn’t have enough non musical things in his life to be able to cope better.
While I grew disenchanted with Emerson, Lake & Palmer after “Brain Salad Surgery” (mostly found their later stuff too gimmicky), he was an inspiration to a 13-year-old me. He wrote and performed some technically amazing stuff.
I was never interested in being a “rock star”, but I thought it was pretty damned cool that a keyboard player achieved that status.
And ELP exposed a lot of young listeners to classical compositions, which was certainly a positive thing, IMHO. (Including exposing me to Bartok, which you might or might not think is a “net good”.) 🙂
I suspect you’re correct about Herr Drumpf’s Tuesday prospects.
Cruz was partially right in blaming Trump -- given what comes out of his mouth -- but IMHO more of the fault attaches to the lefty goons and outfits like MoveOn.
Happy Caturday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa and Sven!
Bummer about Emerson. A group of friends and I loved to crank up Brain Salad Surgery and Welcome Back My Friends… -- I know we wore out more than one copy of each.
On the news last night, I saw a protester in Chicago holding a large, 3′ x 5′ poster of Trump. Across the top it read “Stop the Hate”; scrawled across the face was “Chinga el Pelo”. I think that pretty much sums up the Left these days.
Irony. Brownshirts use violence to shut down a leading opposition candidate’s event and call him Hitler?
Don’t want Trump but this garbage of Democrats using goons against Republicans is getting so bad, from Clinton’s taxpayer funded Americorp goons, to union thugs, and now Obama’s gangs. When does he arm them equal to our military, as he promised?
No wonder he wants to disarm Americans and criminalize dissent.
I was barely 14 when I heard “Tarkus”; the first side blew my little teenaged mind. (And made me want a Hammond even moar than my like for Jimmy Smith’s playing had already inflamed my “gear lust” for one.)
Seems unfair that Emerson’s gone, yet Richards lives.
=============
I find it hard to disagree with the sentiment on the poster you quoted; that’s pretty much how I feel about all of the major party candidates…to an unfortunately equal degree.
(I still feel dirty from having pulled the lever for McCain eight years ago.)
Happy Caturday, GN!
Thread pic guy’s got some major wood.
Another one bites the dust: Keith Emerson dead at 71.

They seem to be dropping like flies lately, Fatwa. Trilogy and Brain Salad Surgery were classic 70’s albums with some good tunes.
Prediction: Trump will soar in the polls and win larger than ever next Tuesday.
Cruz made a mistake in blaming this on Trump last night.
Hai, Sven!

Hai, Paddy!

*Runs to sink to compulsively scrub hands*
Stop the hate or I will kill you. That seems to be the Left’s mantra.
Mac summed it up well: I don’t want Trump either, but I’m tired of the Left’s tactics and hypocrisy.
Sorry, Mac…manners! (Didn’t see you’d left a comment while I was slow-typing mine.)
I, too, concur with your comment.
Thinks are getting mighty ugly; I’m not much looking forward to watching how it develops.
Perhaps better now than later?
Yup; I’d rather it happened before I’m older and more infirm than I am at present.
I’m thinking the same thing, Fatwa.
