Sources in the Cleveland area are of the opinion that the GOP convention is going to be met with much “civil disobedience”…by which they pretty much mean outright thuggery. Several have referenced Chicago in 1968.
I think the city -- and the region -- are going to learn the hard way that there are limits to that old showbiz adage “there’s no such thing as bad publicity”.
I also wonder WTF the GOP was thinking when they chose Cleveland for their convention.
Sorry to hear about your continuing problems with your employer, Paddy. Hopefully it all gets straightened out soon.
The convention this year, one way or the other, ought to be interesting. I wonder if the GOP leaders ever discussed the possibility of a Trump-like event happening. Doubtful.
I am muy tired this morning after a rough night of vivid dreaming. During the first half, Mrs Sven was divorcing me and not being very nice about it as she morphed back and forth with my first wife who was a real piece of work. One of those dreams where you wake up, look around the room, fall back asleep and pick up the dream right where it left off.
Then during the second half of the night, I got fired from the bestest place ever.
Sure Happy It’s Thursday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven and Fatwa!
Sven -- sorry about your lack of sleep (followed by going to the Bestest Place Evah!).
Frivolity at my workplace continues unabated. Yesterday morning my supervisor wanted me to take over H’s classes (her last day of work was yesterday). Sure, no problem. Can I get the list of students? Access to the virtual classroom? Access to the students’ records? Access to the curriculum? Response: do you have a login for program Y? No? Oh carp!
That was the last I heard from her until 4:20, when I got another IM from her (the work day ends at 4:00). Long story short: I’m teaching two writing classes today and two tomorrow. I’ve got the curriculum and access to the classroom. After spring break (next week), I’ll get moar training and teach moar classes. The interesting thing is, I’ve been sitting around, bored, most of the time and was told “Don’t worry, things will slow down after spring break.” I’m beginning to think the pay is so low because you don’t actually work much.
A Romanian Member of Parliament has been sentenced to two years in prison for handing out vast quantities of fast food to voters in a bid to win an election.
Florin Aurelian Popescu, a Liberal Democrat (PDL) politician resigned his parliamentary seat this month ahead of sentencing as he came to answer for a crime committed in 2012. Mr. Popescu was not an MP then, but was seeking re-election on a local council, reports the Telegraph.
Despite it not being a seat in the national parliament Mr. Popescu saw fit to give away 60,992 kg of “grilled chicken”, ordering it in bulk from a local business and sending campaign volunteers to collect and distribute the meat. The prosecutor told the court every package of chicken was “distributed for election purposes”.
Not only that, they couldn’t be bothered to cook the chicken themselves! Leave it to the Liberal Democrats to try to enslave the populace with the yoke of dependency.
Two classes down, two more to go this week. Of the 14 students in my first class, none showed up. 3 of 20 showed up for the second class.
It’s weird talking to a computer screen and not getting the non-verbal cues from your students. Am I just sitting here, making a fool of myself, or are they paying attention?
You would be right. This is a public charter school. Technically, if students don’t attend, they are breaking their contract and can be kicked out, but since the school is paid per body (like all other public schools, at least in CA), they don’t really want to get rid of anyone.
I hope things settle down and get sorted out, Paddy. This does not sound promising.
I decided to let Microsoft upgrade one of my desktop PCs to Windows 10 last night. My second newest machine, a Gateway I bought and heavily upgraded in late 2011, does not get used much, though it is the most powerful machine I have with an i7 CPU, 16 GBs of RAM, and an SSD boot drive. I had decided I needed to reinstall the operating system to try to solve a problem connecting online. Being so old this is a pain and takes several days for all the updates and patches. As they are pushing Win 10 and it is free, I decided to try it. If I don’t like it I will just wipe the drive and reinstall the Win 7 Ultimate again, which I was facing anyway. It did solve my connection problem and so far most of my programs are working. The ones I have found that are not working are not real important and I might not have bothered with them anyway. I don’t use this much and only for limited jobs such as streaming content off the internet to my DVR to record it. By using this machine I do not tie up my newer machine for hours. I used to start it and use two machines when copying DVDs but the new machines are so powerful I found I can run two programs at the same time without slowing down so it just isn’t worth it. I declined all the optional spyware but I understand there is still some built in to Windows. I am not worried with this machine as I don’t normally use it for much that I care about, privacy wise.
So far it is not bad, easier to use than Win 8 or 8.1 and more like Win 7. I think I will be keeping Win 7 on my main machine as long as possible. This seems a painless way to learn and try Win 10.
G’day, GN!
It’s Thursday; teh yay!!1!
k3wL thread GIF, Mac.

What does it all mean? No idea.
Hai, Sven!
Hope your vivid dreaming last night doesn’t leave you with a “REM hangover”…crikey!
A REM hangover before the sun rises on St. Paddy’s day would surely suck. Speaking of teh Irish, you have mail, Fatwa.
Got it; response sent. 🙂
Carp. I have to shave this morning. Poof

Luck ‘o the Irish to all..
Hai, Paddy and Cali!
Bummer…Dad’s peeps have become so debased they can’t even be bothered to steal chickens for themselves anymore:
Heartbreaking. đź‘ż

Sheesh, Paddy…sounds like the place you’re working for is run just a leetle haphazardly.
Would I be correct in assuming from the carpy attendance that the students -- or their families -- are not paying for this out of their own pockets?
