Spoke with Best Man yesterday who knows a lot of folks around NE Ohio; his considered opinion is that Cleveland is woefully ill-prepared for the convention from a public safety standpoint.
I used to like racing my motorcycle on mountain roads. Of course I was never this fast but I did have my knees, footpegs, and muffler clamps well scraped in. This video gives a good feel for the thrill of riding fast and how fast things come at you. My muscles ache a bit after watching this a few times.
It’s not really the speed so much as the acceleration that makes motorcycles so exciting to ride hard. I rather miss them, though this has no appeal any more.
While I learned to ride in my late teens, I didn’t own a bike until I lived in S.F. and bought a used Honda 350 just to get around (as it was a while before I could afford a car).
Given how that city’s streets and traffic are, I was severely disinclined to attempt anything very daring. (Although I may have pushed things a few times late at night along Portola / S. Market St. through the Twin Peaks district.)
But after two close calls in ten days -- and by then having a car -- I decided selling the bike was probably a wise idea. And I was never tempted to get one in Los Angeles. 😉
Been listening to some Kinks concerts from the early 70’s. Great tunes, great band, but the song Art Lover creeps me out:
Little girl don’t notice me
Watching as she innocently plays.
She can’t see me staring at her
Because I’m always wearing shades.
She feeds the ducks, looks at the flowers.
I follow her around for hours and hours.
I’d take her home, but that could never be

If you’re referring to the RNC convention, that’s in Cleveland, which is at the other end of the state. More derision of flyover country from a coastal elite? Pfft. 😉
While it appeared to many onlookers that police allowed the violence to proceed unchecked, San Jose police Chief Eddie Garcia insisted that it was more important for police to hold their “skirmish line” formations than to stop individual attacks. Four arrests were made.
“We are not an ‘occupying force’ and cannot reflect the chaotic tactics of the protesters,” Garcia told reporters. Unless a victim’s life was in peril or the violence was “spiraling out of control,” he said, officers held back to avoid inciting more violence and having the crowd turn on officers. He also said the 250 police weren’t enough to control the roughly 400 protesters.
He and his boss ought to be gibbeted; I’d volunteer to pull the levers.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Fresh off their live stage debut in Los Angeles, the newly formed political activist supergroup Prophets of Rage have set their sights on the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
The supergroup — though band member Tom Morello told Rolling Stone he prefers the term “elite task force of revolutionary musicians determined to confront this mountain of election year bulls—,” — is made up of Morello and two of his former Rage Against the Machine bandmates along with Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Cypress Hill’s B-Real.
They’ll play another live show in L.A. Friday night and possibly others before taking their act to Cleveland “in and around the RNC” in July.
Morello told Bloomberg Politics the Republican National Convention “will be a perfect place for a band like Prophets of Rage to cause a ruckus, and we will be there on the streets, in the field.”
Pretty upfront about their desire to cause trouble, aren’t they?
What’s funny with these anti-Trump protesters is that you see a bunch of them carrying signs along the lines of “Hate has no place in America” while they bash people in the head.
Bashing evil people in the head is okay, ‘tho; that’s simply “justice” (the bashers bein’ “warriors” and all).
The wrongthink must be punched out of their brains; it’s the modern scientific equivalent of torturing the demons out of folks in the old, unenlightened days.
Caturday greetings, Wheelizens!
Sven --
Glad that your aunt’s getting some pain relief.
(One of the uglier aspects of the War on
DrugsPeople is that some prosecutors believe they know -- better than patients or their docs -- what are “appropriate” levels of pain medication. Which leads to some über-carpy situations.)Ace has another bit of San Jose video showing folks being assaulted after the Trump rally Thursday.
Spoke with Best Man yesterday who knows a lot of folks around NE Ohio; his considered opinion is that Cleveland is woefully ill-prepared for the convention from a public safety standpoint.
Hope he’s wrong, but I don’t think he is.
More San Jose thuggery; from YouTube:
Hi Fatwa,
Cats. Nothing but cats here.
I’m guessing that no matter what Cleveland does, no matter how well or unprepared they are, it will be ugly.
The Trump supporters have been surprisingly restrained. So far. I think that begins to change over the next month.
Sorry, Sven. I’ll see what I can do for next week………..hater.
Heh. And good to hear from you, Mac. Hope you and Elena are well.

My Norton Commando 850 looked like this. I have gone close to 120 on it and swept through curves at 110 plus. It was an animal.
Hai, Sven and Mac!
Mac --
Hope you and Elena are doing well.
That video had quite a pucker factor; holy carp.

Happy Caturday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, Sven, and Mac!
Mac -- great video! I hope you and Elena are well on the road to recovery.
I fear that Cincinnati will be well and truly screwed.
Hai, Paddy!

Isn’t Cincinnati in Ohio?
‘nuf said.
Yeah, I meant the Mistake on the Lake, not the one in the southwest corner.
Heh.
Mistake on the lake…mistake on the river; easy to understand the confusion.
I see that San Jose Police Chief Eddie “La Raza” Garcia’s subordinates are so criminally inept that 250 of those armed, truncheoned, yoonyunized tax leeches weren’t enough to control 400 protesters.
He and his boss ought to be gibbeted; I’d volunteer to pull the levers.
“spiraling out of control,”
Does that mean a Trump supporter fighting back?
That’s a good guess, Mac.
Given the, ah, popularity of concealed carry in OH, I suspect some “protesters” there will be ventilated by honest folks.
And then there’s carp like this: Prophets of Rage supergroup headed to Cleveland to ’cause a ruckus’ during RNC
Pretty upfront about their desire to cause trouble, aren’t they?
