Good morning, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
I was having a discussion on Facebook with a high school friend after he posted that quote from Reagan about nobody needing an assault weapon. After explaining the differences between a real assault rifle and what the media likes to call an assault weapon, and the general lack of availability of true assault rifles to the public, I said there hasn’t been a crime committed with a legally owned assault rifle in over 40 years. He kept saying that claim was nonsense, but couldn’t respond with any examples to the contrary -- he just kept changing the point and insisting my claim was nonsense.
I have mostly tried to avoid getting drawn in as it is such an hysterical fever swamp, but the other day a transgendered friend on Facebook posted something that said Republicans and the NRA were directly responsible for the killings. I posted that I did not really feel the guilt for what a Democrat Muslim fanatic did. It ended up being an all day exchange with me pointing out the assault weapon ban had been tried and showed no effect, that gun ownership was at an all time high and crime was down, that the rate of fire did not matter as the bad guy had three hours and could have killed a hundred people with a hammer in that time as long as they were unarmed to resist. She said I did not want to live in peace because I wanted to be armed to protect my family. I pointed out that the unarmed places like Chicago and DC were hardly peaceful while my gun soaked community was very peaceful. She ended up saying that Obama was a Constitutional scholar so if he said the 2nd amendment did not say what it said it must be OK. She then insulted me and unfriended me. What a waste. You just can not have a polite and reasoned discussion. If you present points they can not respond to then they just retreat behind shouted invective.
Kudos to you and Paddy for trying to engage folks about teh 2A. I’ve mostly given up, except for pointing out that the only way to confiscate guns is to use people with guns to do so.
And that it’s highly unlikely to be a successful effort.
That rarely ends well. 😉
I’m also reminded of Charlton Heston being interviewed by Larry Elder shortly after the Rodney King riots. Heston -- rather gleefully -- related how some of his Hollywood elite neighbors wanted to borrow guns to protect themselves. Heston asked them if they’d ever used one and when they replied “no”, he pointed out how it would be highly irresponsible of him to let them borrow one.
Kudos to you guys for trying to engage the other side. I’ve been talking to some libs at work and the most effective thing I’ve asked them is that if Trump gets elected, what type of secret lists do you think he’s going to keep?
Happy Tuesday, GN!
How the Vietnamese start their day: doggy burritos!
Hot Air or Ace linked this article on needing AR-15s. It’s really quite good and the comments from the left are priceless.

Yes, I want to have a conversation with these people because they sound so reasonable:
“…they come in many brands, with the minute distinctions among them a source of excitement to gun fetishists”
“The blood lobby for guns insists that the weapon has nothing to do with the murderous act.”
“…of empowerment by a deadly weapon, of enhanced masculinity by lethal potential, of a feeling of autonomy achieved by the gleam of a gun barrel…”
“…then those who stand in the way of the solution become complicit in the deaths.”

OK, it’s a bit cooler here today, so off to work at teh bestest place ever. Good day to all.

There’s no reasoning with a True Believer.
Hai, Sven and Paddy!
It only took me 15 minutes to buy this AR-15!!1!
It has assault waveforms, high-capacity filters, an envelope generator and fully automatic MIDI!!

Nice try, Paddy.
Hai, Mac!
