“A little fewer than twenty antifascists showed up, armed with sticks to rally outside the venue. Music fans were warned that for months neo-Nazis had been attempting to organize in this part of south East Austin where the venue was located. They were ask to not patronize the place or support the show. But due to the low standards common in the metal scene, very few were deterred.”
“We kept our eyes on the crowd, picking out the actual neo-Nazis and committed fascists, distinct from the general misguided and unscrupulous metalheads (the latter should be criticized for their unacceptable pardoning and normalization of fascist messages and for fraternizing with fascists but not targeted with specific violence like the former must be).”
“If you walk around the area of East Riverside, East Pleasant Valley, and other parts of the 41, you see hundreds of posters with Connor’s face across them reading “Warning: Neo-Nazi” and containing all of his personal information, including his home address in Austin at 1300 Crossing Place as well as his parents’ home address in San Antonio. These posters have caused a stir in the area, serving as a community big character poster much like the ones that played a major role in the Cultural Revolution in China. The posters have been very popular here, earning some mass interest in antifascism. Local youths have promised to remember his face and give him a greeting he won’t soon forget should their paths cross.”
They build new roads and upgrade infrastructure at a shocking rate to my California based expectations but the growth eats it all up. Everything is in a constant state of growth and upgrading.
The funny thing is that when we lived in Elk Grove, a little South of Sacramento, it was that way there as it was the fastest growing city in the nation for a while. Things did seem to take a lot longer to get done there. I have been rather amazed since we first moved here at the pace things are built or developed. It is almost like the government worked for the people instead of the other wat around.
Texas used to be Democrat before Bush. The cities they collect at like Austin and Houston show the rot but with the success of the Texas economy the socialist line would be a hard sell statewide, I think. Isn’t that what happened to Colorado? I think that is why Californians were so despised in Oregon some time back. They do like to foul their nests and then move on, which is fine until they want to recreate their liberal Hellholes in fresh areas. I know we find a surprising number of people like us from California but most are happy to be here and would want nothing to do with a Democrat transformation. Maybe that is why they tend to collect around the Democrat enclaves. Liberals are not too comfortable around the patriotic and proud Texans in many areas. Imagine the shock of having a part time legislature that leaves people to run their own lives and communities? How does a good liberal cope with such irresponsible ideas?
I’ll echo your hope, Mac. I still have friends in Houston, and their opinion is that the city went full liberal after their influx of Katrina refugees that never left.
It does sometimes shock me to see some of the liberal craziness from Texas but then I look where and it is usually as expected. Dallas itself seems to suffer from typical city government to some extent but the areas around it are rather solid red.
Funny, I don’t recall Obama being held to task over it…
Despite sittin’ in Jeremiah Wright’s church for two decades with them big ol’ ears, he never heard nothin’ disparaging no white folks or Jooos. (I’m amused that in some quarters , my peeps aren’t considered to be white; I guess we’re Hebraic-hued or somethin’. It’s terribly confusing to me.)
“But due to the low standards common in the metal scene, very few were deterred.”
…distinct from the general misguided and unscrupulous metalheads…
Gosh, that’s not snooty or disparaging to metal fans, is it? I think those are dog whistle phrases for “wiggers”. 👿
Glad to see Atlanta made the top five for bad traffic; FYI -- Mayor Kasim Reed is definitely not a Republican.
I’m sure they are just those nasty working jobs no self respecting government wants, but like us you money grubbers probably welcome those icky jobs and the resulting taxes and boost to the economy. It’s a heavy burden but someone has to do it.
Yup…it sure was terrible when Mercedes Benz USA relocated here from New Jersey a couple of year ago. Many icky white collar jobs from a fourth-rate car company that’s maybe a notch or two above Yugo and Trabant.
It’s a terrible hassle watching them struggle to find places to build all those new buildings to hold those thousands of employees they are hiring. I feel sorry for them.
One of the claims from the anti-fascists that shut down the Marduk concerts was that they were anti-Jew. This prompted one supporter, referencing the band’s first album’s artwork, to quip: “Fact: When you see a woman shoving a crucifix up her ass, what you are actually seeing is “I hate the Jews”.
Black/death metal is not my cup of tea. The northern European bands are rabidly anti-Christian and the music itself is just not that good. Hard to tell one song from the next especially with the angry screaming guttural vocals. I like Slayer, but can I listen to them all Day? No.
But are they any worse than a host of other bands? Nope. More offensive than most? Nope. I won’t buy their stuff nor go to their shows, but I sure as hell won’t swing a bat at anyone’s head that likes them.
It’s very strange times in America when words are considered the actual equivalent to actions and the use of physical violence becomes the nonquestioning response. With nary a peep from the MSM that is still worried about those Tea Party folks…
If that hurt, don’t look for the actual album cover art. Tell you what, if these guys hated Muslims as much as they hate Christians, they’d be dead by now.
Makes me think of an incident when Davis was being recalled. The service employees union was having a convention or rally at a hotel and someone was standing quietly on a corner across the street holding a recall sign. There was video of a bunch of union goons running across the street through traffic and attacking the guy, an older man. He ended up in the hospital and came out in a wheel chair. It could have been worse but the hotel security guards called the police. Afterwards a newsperson was interviewing a PR rep for the union and he said they were just having a good time at the meeting. He said some troublemakers tried to start trouble but the union guys defended themselves and no one was hurt. I wanted to hurl. Of course, it got very biased coverage in the liberal press but the video was taken from the hotel and clearly showed what an unprovoked attack it was.
I have that video and it makes me want to hurl. No wonder I hate unions.
Mornin’, GN!
I see from today’s thread pic that Gene Simmons has had a makeover.
Sven --
Good luck with teh brisket; remember -- cook covered! 😉
BBL.
For TeX and Sven: a story -- with photos -- about the Botswanan metal scene:

Thanks, Fatwa. Skinflint--not a bad sound, but a white lead singer.
Good morning, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
That’s it. I got nuthin.
Hi, Paddy.
I see that anti-semitism is all the news today. Funny, I don’t recall Obama being held to task over it, but maybe that’s just my poor memory.
Still following the Marduk story. Some interesting stuff from a group called Red Guards Austin. Odd that the SPLC doesn’t list them as a hate group.

Must. Cook. Covered.
It’s in the oven. It is covered.
Fatwa? I think Sven just teed one up for you!
Sadly, I’m way too tired to take advantage of that; my work day ended about 9:30 tonight. (Resser-fresser three-hour time difference…)
Yeah, us:

Rather interesting, the cities with the worst traffic in America are:
Los Angeles
New York
San Francisco
Atlanta
Miami
Washington, DC
Dallas
Boston
Chicago
Seattle
I’m guessing that at least 8/10 have Democrat mayors.
Dallas traffic is bad. It is because of HUGE growth thanks to all the businesses and jobs coming from CA and other Democrat States. Thanks!

With the influx of Californians, do you worry that Texas will change in the next 20 years from Republican to Democrat?

I do hope it does not happen.

I know, racist. I denounce myself.
--“I denounce myself.”--
Oh sure, take a liberal’s job away!
It does sometimes shock me to see some of the liberal craziness from Texas but then I look where and it is usually as expected. Dallas itself seems to suffer from typical city government to some extent but the areas around it are rather solid red.

We’re about due to lure another large business here from YankeeLand. I love when that happens. 🙂
I’m sure they are just those nasty working jobs no self respecting government wants, but like us you money grubbers probably welcome those icky jobs and the resulting taxes and boost to the economy. It’s a heavy burden but someone has to do it.
Thanks CA.

My brain hurts from trying to parse that.

Is it covered? Is it safe?
Thanks, Mac. I just got up and checked again. Don’t think I ain’t worried about it; that last one was brick hard.
Ha! I win! Tender and tasty!
Congrats!
What was the total cook time?
It was about two hours and forty-five minutes.
