Re yesterday’s “discussion” about the way Frisch has been allowed to run roughshod over folks for more than a decade: “the system” exists mostly to serve itself and grow. We do not have a justice system in America, we -- in practice -- have a legal system, which is a very different thing.
Those who comprise said system have perverse incentives and metrics…if they have any at all. There are rarely consequences for non-performance or screw-ups; they have immunity, unions, get to investigate themselves, and vitually zero accountability.
And those -- politicians -- who are supposed to help keep things in-check mostly don’t because they want the endorsements, campaign contributions and are themselves largely protected by the same lazy, corrupt and inept individuals.
Do any of you think I refer to the government as a “criminal enterprise” or toss out the occasional #BTFSTTG just to be hip or edgy? Our current system of government is 98% utter shit at every level. It is beyond fixing or reform.
And I despair because I have no workable answers save for making unfortunate examples of individuals. There’s a reason tarring, feathering and riding people out of town on a rail were American traditions.
A blessed Sabbath, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven the first, and Fatwa!
Fatwa -- I fear you are right. We are no longer a republic -- more like an oligarchy. As Backhoe used to say, “tumbrels, guillotines, and offal-throwing peasants -- some assembly required.”
Hai, “Firsties” Sven (whose comment I didn’t see) and Paddy!
AFAIC, we have been living in an oligarchy our whole lives; I suspect it’s more apparent now as its influence and power to screw us has grown prodigiously and alternative media provides us with a lot more data than we had even twenty years ago.
Backhoe was absolutely right.
I’m fearful of what is likely to happen when the peasants begin to fight back in earnest…but I’m even more fearful that we won’t.
First! It’s a small win, but I’ll take it!
Happy Sunday, GN!
Is “dent shaming” a thing now? 😉

It’s well-past time to return to them.

It’s going to suck either way.
