Didn’t find much in the way of informative fire updates this morning (which is a bit odd to me); hope teh Mountain Redoubt is -- and remains -- unaffected.
The fire coverage is always confusing. Many times it’s quite dramatic but uninformative. In our case, the Rye fire did not reach Simi last night, but they expect it will today. Winds have died down, but are expected to pick up later today. The 405 is shut down around Getty Center due to a new fire there.
The Thomas fire has jumped the 101 and made it all the way to the ocean. It’s still burning north towards Santa Barbara. There has to be a lot fuel up in the Santa Paula area cuz we’ve been able to see those flames 15-20 miles off for the last day and a half in what looks to be the same general location.
The sun is down and the winds are picking up. News coverage has gone from a bit useful to isn’t this tragic. Although the fire Im concerned about at the moment, Rye, has burned more than 7000 acres with 0 containment, no one is talking about it. Where is it? What’s it doing? Nada.
It doesn’t help either that newspeople sometimes refer to the Rye fire and other times as the Santa Clarita fire. Each one of these fires has at least two names that are used interchangeably. Quite confusing.
Anyhow, tonite will be bad. The winds will be at their 70mph gust peak beginning now until sunup tomorrow and then drop down to 25-30mph. I think we are still in good shape, but lots of folks are going to have trouble tonite and tomorrow.
There are no new updates for the Rye Fire and the threat to Simi Valley is minimal at this time.
The wind conditions are expected to worsen tonight so residents should remain vigilant.
With that potential for high winds over the next several days, and the fires continuing to burn across Southern California, the City’s Emergency Operations Center will remain open until Friday in the event that Simi Valley is threatened again by either this fire or another fire event.
There are no voluntary or mandatory evacuation notices in place at this time.
The City of Simi Valley will continue to provide updates if fire conditions change.
The City’s Hotline, 805-583-6796, will also be updated.
With all these sexual harassment events coming out of the woodwork, it would be interesting if you could fine some guy that you could fully vette that never did anything untoward with a woman, man, barnyard animal or potted plant, and then come out with an allegation against him from 2006 and see if any more folks came out of the woodwork saying me too.
G’day, Wheelizens!

Heya, Sven!
Thanks for the info. Glad the Rye fire hasn’t hit Simi yet; it’d be nice if it didn’t.
I can only imagine what a clusterfark the 405 must be today.
Good morning, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
Sven -- I’m glad y’all didn’t have to bug out in the middle of the night. Hopefully you won’t have to rush home from work to pack up and leave.
Good evening, GN!

Thanks, Paddy. Vigilance is our watchword.
A friend just turned me on to this guy who has better information than the local news:

Winds have picked up significantly. Stay safe, Sven.
And you as well, Paddy.

Sounds like Mike Pence.
He’d be perfect!
