Sure hope firefighters can make some serious progress on the Thomas fire today; 360 square miles is -- to me -- a hard-to-imagine amount of devastation.
Schools in the Santa Maria/Santa Ynez areas are closed today due to poor air quality. That’s anywhere from 30-75 miles north of the leading edge of the Thomas fire -- gives you an idea of how huge this thing is. We can still see flames from it’s east edge from our place.
There are reports of a terror attack in New York City, after an explosion was felt Monday morning in a Subway station near Times Square.
Commuters said they felt a blast in the Subway tunnels underneath the Port Authority Bus Terminal around 7:30am. The bus terminal is a major transit hub for people commuting to and from New Jersey by bus, and is located just a block from Times Square.
Police have taken one man into custody, who was carrying a pipe bomb with a battery back, a source told the New York Post. He was injured when the bomb malfunctioned, but is alive and in stable condition, according to the FDNY.
The FDNY says a total of four people were injured and that the injuries were non-life-threatening. The injured count includes the suspect.
The authorities are actually calling this a “terrorist attack”; amazing!
Good morning, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
I’ve got a colleague who lives in Ojai -- she’s been under mandatory evacuation orders since at least Saturday morning. Let’s pray the winds stay calm and they can get this fire under control.
Fatwa -- calling an act of terrorism “terrorism”? Will wonders never cease!
Happy Moist Mouser Monday, Wheelizens!
(Yeah…strained alliteration. It’s Monday.)

Criminy.

Hai, Sven!
Amazing that you can see flames from so far away. (Must be nerve-wracking despite the distance.)
So…some dipshit mostly failed -- fortunately -- to light off a bomb in NYC this morning:

I see they’ve lifted the evacuation orders for Ojai, but the fire is continuing to push west, towards Goleta.
