After saying the smell of pot in the air “takes away his freedom,” Alford speculates on, you know, the real reasons we outlawed pot.
Here’s the lesson in pharmacology and history Rep. Alford presented to some of his constituents: “Any way you say it, marijuana is an entry drug into the higher drugs,” Alford said. “What you really need to do is go back in the ’30s, when they outlawed all types of drugs…What was the reason why they did that?”
Gee, Rep. Alford, I guess we just don’t know!
“One of the reasons why, I hate to say it, was that the African Americans, they were basically users and they basically responded the worst off to those drugs just because of their character makeup, their genetics and that. And so basically what we’re trying to do is we’re trying to do a complete reverse with people not remembering what has happened in the past.”
Wonder if anyone’s told him about the legendary bulletproof “Negro cocaine fiends” of a century ago? Aieeeeeeeee!!1!
I’m going to guess that many laws can be traced back to some racist belief. At the same time, Sessions is merely saying he’s going to allow his agents to enforce existing federal law. There’s a real simple solution to the coming impasse between CA and DC: let Congress do its job and pass legislation at the federal level making marijuana use legal.
Good rainy Tuesday morning, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa!
We’ve already received a little over 0.5 inches of rain today and the brunt of the storm is being felt up Sven’s way. Let’s hope the burn areas survive without much flooding.
Fatwa -- the level of stooopid present in our elected officials cannot be underestimated.
Jon Gruden returned to Oakland today as head coach of the Raiders. It’s really hard not to be excited about him coming back and his obvious enthusiasm is contagious. But when asked about the National Anthem protests impacting the Raiders performance this past season, here’s his response:
“I’m going to look into all that,’’ Gruden said. “Honestly, I’m not aware of any protests. I’m not really aware of that subject at all. So when I gather some information, maybe we can cover it.’’
Really, Jon? You’ve been working for ESPN the last 5 years and have been doing Monday Night Football all season, and yet you are totally unaware of any protests? Unaware that your RB Marshawn Lynch has been sitting on his ass all season?
Leapin’ kittehs…it’s Tuesday, GN!

Per Teh Daily Squeak, U No Hoo was sprung from the pokey overnight:

Felon fleeing justice? Sure, you can have a ridiculously low bail! No-bail warrant? Ha! As if that matters!

And these are the people liberals want making their medical, financial, employment, and scientific decisions for them. What could go wrong?
Hai, Paddy and Mac!
Ultimately, I blame the voters. Without whom drooling, gibbering chimps like Mr. Alford could not be elected…or reelected.
Ditto people like Mrs. Alford, who is a magistrate.

Not a lot of rain, but a lot of damage here and north of here in Montecito above Santa Barbara -- death toll is up to 8 now.
Really? We’ve gotten 2 inches already, with lots of wind.

Amazing.
