Got a call yesterday morning from a contractor whose bid we accepted asking if his guys could start replacing our wooden front steps later in the day. (I was expecting that we’d get a day or two advance notice, but I also know what it’s like for contractors scheduling work.)
I said that was fine, the guys showed up about an hour later, demoed the old wood steps and frame which wasn’t hard, given their condition, except for one of the concrete footers which took some serious digging. They did an excellent job of framing yesterday and will finish up today.
Given the lack of maintenance prior to my arrival at CasaK, we’ve managed to keep those steps and the little “front porch” functional for several years longer than we had any right to expect; it’s been on our maintenance list for a while. Glad to finally be getting it done; we decided to go with Trex ’cause I ain’t getting any younger. 👿
Was saddened to hear yesterday that Aretha Franklin is very ill; she was my introduction to the church roots of “soul music” and, even as a dopey kid, I thought she had an amazing voice. One of my “guilty pleasure” recordings is this sorta disco-y version of “Hold On, I’m Comin'” from the early ’80s, despite some of the silliness.

I got the day of my “professional development” wrong -- it’s tomorrow.
As to the location -- all they need is a room large enough for 40-50 people. This one is being held at a Seventh Day Adventist church that we use for end of the year Common Core testing. Most of the teachers in this group live in San Diego, but some are in Orange County and Temecula.
Fatwa -- glad you’re happy with the work your contractor is performing. Sad to hear about Aretha.

The new front steps are almost complete; they look great. SackO’SugarK and I are both happy ’bout that.
Yeah, it is, but I guess the couldn’t find a free or cheap place closer inland.
