Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Awwwwww…

Middle Of Teh Week Salutations, GN!

Much as I hate the idea of more gummint regulation, I also think that some of the large social media companies are wearing mighty short skirts, IYKWIMAITTYD. I get that it’s a complicated issue, but it seems pretty obvious to me that some of them are acting in bad faith.

Normally, I’d be in favor of letting the market sort things out; however, that may not be a very viable option in this instance due to some companies’ near-monopoly status.

Oh well…BBL.

Read this interesting take on the ACLU and the NRA: https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/08/the-aclus-decision-to-defend-the-nra-is-under-attack-internally.html

An internal clash over the civil-liberty group’s decision to defend the NRA shows how the organization is transforming.

What I found interesting is the writer’s leftist take on the current state of America -- and the left’s rather twisted logic to ignore the Constitution if it’s for a good reason.

“That fallout illustrates a fierce dispute within the organization over who deserves its aid during this violent moment in American history, as a resurgence of xenophobia and racism threatens vulnerable people across the country.”

” Does it require absolute fidelity to neutral principles like freedom of speech? Or does it require certain principles to yield in the face of renewed and devastating daily assaults on the equal-protection rights of marginalized groups across the country?”

“Today, both the president and his allies have embraced key elements of their white-supremacist ideology to varying degrees. And modern racists are able to demonstrate—and commit mass murder—with a terrifying arsenal of firearms, thanks in large part to laws promoted by the NRA.”

And off to work -- happy Wednesday!

Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Heya, Sven!

I’m sure glad Slate didn’t shade the daylights out of their article.

“…as a resurgence of xenophobia and racism threatens vulnerable people across the country.”

Yeah, right. Seems like the preponderance of actual “threats” (and real violence) are aimed at caucasian, non-progressives. But maybe my perceptions are skewed due to my mysterious “white privilege”.

Many of our politicians and much of the media -- along with other organizations and businesses -- are playing a very dangerous game. And it scares the hell out of me; if they get the CivWar2 they seem to be trying to incite, it’ll make the first one pale in comparison.

Criminy.

Happy Wednesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!

Every few decades, the ACLU takes the correct position in re the NRA. The fact that Slate would openly write what in the past the Progressives only spoke of in private is an indication of just how far off the beam we’ve gone.

Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Hi Paddy!

I’m less-than-thrilled that so many Democrats are openly declaring for socialism. But I suppose their honesty is preferable to plotting in the dark.

I’m grudgingly appreciative that Trump’s election is causing so very many bad people to out themselves. It’s clear I’ve severely underestimated the number of our fellow citizens who are dangerous to our founding principles for decades.

I’m a bit surprised to discover I’ve been insufficiently paranoid.

FFS: Sarah Palin, Loyal Running Mate, Excluded from John McCain’s Funeral

https://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2018/08/29/sarah-palin-loyal-running-mate-excluded-from-john-mccains-funeral/

The worst thing that Sarah Palin ever did was to agree to help out that POS McCain. Not once after the election did he EVER come to her defense.
