Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!

Where’s that Arbuckle character?

He might be at a secret meeting of the Order of Zion -- let me check my calendar. Nope, no meeting listed -- that must be where he’s at.

Well, just so they fix our weather out here, Paddy.

Raiders again. From last night’s game: “Somehow, the Raiders stooped to even lower lows against one of two teams that entered Week 9 with a worse record than their miserable 1-6 mark. The Raiders made a quarterback starting his first career regular season game look like a potential future Hall of Famer, and in the process cemented themselves as the worst team in the NFL…To top it all off, a vicious fight between Raiders and 49ers fans broke out in the stands midway through the fourth quarter. After taking a punch, a man in a Marshawn Lynch jersey fell backward over a row of seats. That seemed like a fitting way for the Raiders to go out. ”

I laugh.

I can’t help myself: “We’d suspected all along that the Raiders were the worst team in the NFL, but with a modicum of offensive firepower at their disposal, perhaps they were not. Well, tonight we learned that they are in fact the worst team in the NFL, with the worst defense anyone has seen in many years. I’d be hard-pressed to name any Raiders who were winners tonight.”

“Derek Carr was sacked 20 times all last season. He has now been sacked 23 times in eight games this season, including six times tonight.”

And from live blogging Raider fans:

I can’t watch this anymore. I just can’t. This is an insult to all the fans who fight for and support the team. The franchise simply cannot do this to us with a straight face. It is criminal. It is a disgrace. It is a tragedy. Love to the Nation.

Throw past the stick you moron.

As much as it pains me to write this, my team is a steaming pile of sh*t with vomit on top.

FFS. Shoot me now.

Keep Carr. Don’t keep Carr. Whatever. We’re fu*ked. Doesn’t matter. This team has the least amount of talent, by a mile, in football.

I want to turn off but has that scene of an accident thing going on.

Brutal.
What the Raiders are doing to their fans, I mean.

Had to laugh. CNN Breaking News headline: Obama Accuses Trump of “Lying” and “Making Stuff Up.” I always thought that “making stuff up” was lying, no?

I guess we just don’t understand “nuance”.

That was one of my problems while he was POTUS -- that whole “nuance” thing of his.

It’s like “it depends on what the meaning of ‘is’ is”. Sorry, you’re not even playing word games at this point, just changing meanings to support your unsupportable position.

There’s a an awful lot I don’t like about Trump, but compared to all the alternatives I’ve seen or lived through, I’m just fine with him as POTUS. Our political class need a wakeup call or a kick in the ass, and Trump has provided that. It might have happened just in time.

I threw out a book today. One that I had been looking forward to reading. I’ve never thrown out a book before -- normally they go to the library or Salvation Army or some such place.

This book came from a friend- a retired guy who reads a lot and when he gets through with them, so as not to clutter up HIS place, he sends them to me. The book: Strange Weather by Joe Hill. Hill is Steven King’s son. His first novel was Heart-Shaped Box -- a heavy metal singer being haunted by a vengeful ghost. Great novel and the audio version is superb. I despise King, but thought his kid might be OK.

Anyhow, the book is four novellas -- I’m reading the book jacket and I get to the last novella description: Loaded. “In “Loaded,” a mall security guard in a coastal Florida town courageously stops a mass shooting and becomes a hero to the modern gun rights movement. But under the glare of the spotlights, his story begins to unravel, taking his sanity with it. When an out-of-control summer blaze approaches the town, he will reach for the gun again and embark on one last day of reckoning.”

Yeah, knowing what an anti-2A guy his father is, I can imagine where Loaded will go. And without thinking, I toss the book in the trash can next to my desk. An autographed copy, too. I feel a little bad, but not too much. I think I should be open to alternative points of view, but knowing how unfairly the other side fights, I just don’t feel like making the effort.

On the other hand, I came across this today: The Hero of the Sutherland Springs Shooting Is Still Reckoning with What Happened that Day -- well worth your time.

If the guy who gave it to you didn’t care that it was an autographed copy, then it shouldn’t cause you any worry, either.

That was a very powerful article, Sven. Thanks for sharing it.
