Jim teh Roofer sent me some pics of the smoke from the Hill Fire fire he took from his house in Camarillo yesterday. And I hope the Woolsey Fire does nothing more than inconvenience teh Svens. (Not that I wish them inconvenience, but that’s better than some of the alternatives.)
Two new Joo-hating Muslims got elected to Congress, got another Joo-hater -- “untouchable” ’cause she’s a black woman -- might become GA’s governor, attacks on Joos in NYC.
The T.O. murders (and predictable reaction from gun-grabbers).
Ballot shenanigans in Broward County, FL (and, possibly, GA).
Hi, Fatwa. Hope Jim teh Roofer is OK and in a safe location. Things are getting more and more dicey out here although in our neck of the woods things are OK. For teh moment.
Glad Sven got teh day off; hope the fires stay far away from the Mountain Redoubt.
While the Hill Fire’s much closer to Jim, it’s south of the freeway and headed toward the ocean; Jim’s several miles north of the 101 and isn’t worried about that one. The Woolsey fire is a potential problem for him but is still a long ways off.
One of Jim’s girfriend’s daughters got evacuated from her apartment in T.O. at 3:00 a.m. and turned up at Jim’s about an hour later. (Those girls think of Jim as a non-evil step-dad and consider Jim’s kids their siblings; nice to see a healthy “blended” family like that. Even ‘tho their all grownups now.)
Really hope that, despite the winds and low humidity, firefighters can make some real progress today.
The local news coverage of these fires has run its usual course. Initially, the coverage is useful. Informative. Clearly stating where the danger is, where fires are burning, where they are heading. And then you start to notice, as the fire area grows, that coverage on all channels begins to focus on the human interest stories -- it goes from being mostly informative to being 50/50 between people and events/information. That seems to take about 6 hours.
This morning, the mix is more like 80% people (“I’ve lived here X number of years and I’ve never seen anything like this”) and 20% events (“The fire has moved into this area.”). I think what happens is that after maybe 6 hours of coverage, management gets involved. After 12 hours, management is running the whole show with an eye on ratings.
I like Tucker Carlson -- he’s at least entertaining and usually leans the in the right direction without the Hannity/Maddow annoying histrionics of the WORLD IS ENDING RIGHT NOW. What happened at his home is disgraceful, but what I keep waiting to hear is someone who is physically attacked or harassed by the left, just flat out say “Touch me and I will hit you back. Attack me and I will shoot you. Threaten me and I will shoot you. Attack my family and I will shoot you.”
This hand wringing and moaning about the “lack of civility” is pointless. Do like Rand Paul’s wife did and sleep with a gun. Commit to protecting yourself and your family. Don’t be waiting around for the world to change.
I, too, would like folks to be a lot firmer re the consequences for people who can’t keep their hands to themselves or who make threats. Sadly, in our PC, wussified America, that’s unacceptable to far too many people.
Winds are dying down -- actually somewhat calm not that it does anyone any good in the areas that are in flames. Lot of home are gone but so far no serious injuries.
Santa Ana’s are supposed to die down through Sunday and then pick up again starting Monday.
This is what happens when you ditch the Paris Climate Accords and end net neutrality.
That area in Calabasas is incredibly wealthy and protected -- figured if anyone could ride this out it would be that clan.
As bad as these fires are, it is nothing compared to what’s going on in Northern California -- the videos coming from there are horrifying. Several dead.
Happy Petulant Kitteh Friday, GN!
What a week.

Criminy.
Hope you all have uneventful days; BBL.

I’m waiting for the gun grabbers to blame these fires on the NRA as a way to take attention away from this last shooting.
In an unprecedented move, teh bestest place ever has closed all corporate offices for the day.
Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
Prayers that Jim the Roofer and the Svens stay safe.
Sven -- that’s great news in re Teh Bestest Place Ever!
I wasn’t going to go in today anyhow, but nice that they actually got warnings and information out.
Hai, Sven and Paddy!
Glad Sven got teh day off; hope the fires stay far away from the Mountain Redoubt.

This brought me a much-needed smile:

I feel bad about this now -- I was kidding Mrs Sven this morning that first he lost his manhood and now his home.
