Caturday salutations from drizzly -- and possibly thunderstorm-y -- Larryville. Oh well, at least our unseasonably cold snap has temporarily abated; we’ve got a couple of unseasonably warm days on tap, followed by more unseasonable cold.
CLIMATE CHAOS…AIEEEEEEEEEE! Guess I should finish our shrine to Saint AlGore. 👿
Paddy’s tale of The Younger’s boat trip, in combination with Mac’s thread GIF, reminds me of when, many years ago, two of the horn players from the band I was in decided to go SCUBA diving. The water was more than a little choppy out Catalina-way and one of them got moderately seasick.
The flinty boat captain was quite solicitous and kept asking stuff like, “Can I get you anything…like a warm mayonnaise sandwich?”
(That became a running band, erm, gag at rehearsals, because we were all bad people.)
Sad but not unexpected news about Bush 41 dying -- now that he’s dead, it gives the media and the rest of the chattering class a chance to say how wonderful he was. Well, except for the metoo side of America -- they’ll believe that Bush’s entire life story comes down to him maybe touching a woman’s butt without permission.
Congrats on the refi, Mac, and the relief from unpaid bills. We refinanced earlier this year for another 30 years and it knocked off about $500 from the monthly payment. We have no plans to pay off this house nor to live the rest of our lives here, so that made the most sense. I’ve been worried about getting by on one income sometime in the next couple of years so reducing monthly expenses is the goal.
When we bought this house we got a 15 year mortgage as I planned to pay it off after eight years, but that did not work out and I did as you did in 2011 and changed to a 30 year. The extended term and a drop in interest rate from 5.375 to 4.5% made a big drop in the payment. We decided at that point we would never pay it off so the smaller payment was best.
It’s interesting, Mac, that the cats you are caring for are OK in another house -- Unlike dogs, I never thought cats were that adaptable to new environments or change.
They were nervous the first time or two they stayed here but we have no animals and they seem to recognize the house now. The two older ones seemed at home almost immediately and just settle in within minutes. The shy one seems to know the best “shelters” as well. She seems comfortable in less obscure places which helps make her easier to find when I want to check on her. She surprised me two days ago by coming into the kitchen while I was there and even coming close and letting me pet her a few times. Then she hissed at me and walked away. I try to make a point of talking to her often without trying to get too close. I also make sure she gets access to food and water without the other cats bothering her at least a few times. The boy cat keeps her company often which she seems to like but he can be bothersome to the other cats too, he is so big and acts like a bothersome little brother at times. The girls have to put him in his place, but it isn’t always easy as he is so big. It leads to occasional drama, but they get along fine in general.
It’s funny to see them settle in so fast, they have recently had to adjust to a new house with more people, and to the baby, now almost three years old, taking the focus of attention. Now another is on the way, so they might be wanting to stay.
I liked the movie. As you say, the troll was great. Elena and I both liked that, and Elena had indeed heard stories about cats stealing a babies breath. Growing up she had a dog but had only known feral cats so she was terrified of them. It was funny to see her won over by the sly beasts. She loves them now.
Speaking of cats, the other day as I was going to work, I noticed that there were mouse entrails on the stair landing. Man, I just didn’t want to clean up the mess so I stepped carefully around it, pretended not to see it, left the light on, and figured Mrs Sven would clean it up. Nope. She did the same thing and I cleaned it up when I got home that night.

Hi, Fatwa -- happy Saturday, GN.
Sad but not unexpected news about Bush 41 dying -- now that he’s dead, it gives the media and the rest of the chattering class a chance to say how wonderful he was. “Warm mayonnaise sandwich” Classic. Mean, but classic.

Hi, Paddy. Enjoy them chores.
Cat’s Eye -- despite it being Stephen King, it’s a movie worth watching. Love the troll. And it does feature an effective quit smoking method.

We have become white trash.
As predictable as night following day: Now that he’s dead, President Bush was a great man. Assh*les.
