I can only imagine how a “liberal” pundit would react to it…a southern white man keeping chickens in cages and threatening their very lives if they don’t do as he bids; that’s just like slavery!!1!
And because liberals are all about the science -- including well verified theories like Lysenkoism -- that hatefulness is passed-on to the chicks. Which is precisely how Chick-Fil-A acquires the chicken they serve-up to a hungry nation. Because we all know just how delicious their “hate chicken” is.
Plus, they not only hate blacks…they hate teh gheys, too. And Chick-Fil-A was started by another white southern man and is a beloved institution in this region of the country.
Not only that, but they only serve white meat! Vast Christian right-wing racist chicken conspiracy!
SCIENCE!!
(Criminy…the preceding logically-tortured mockery made my head hurt.)
The Rise and Fall of T. D. Lysenko -- good book. I remember reading it back in my college days along with Kuhn’s The Structure of Scientific Revolutions.
Looking at the news today, I’m so old that I remember the media in full uproar over Trump saying “crooked Hillary” and yet today they all heartily embrace and repeat “Moscow Mitch.”
Meanwhile, headlines from the past week from our southern neighbors.
Jalisco: 4 Kidnapped, One Dead Plus Bags of Body Parts near Safe House
Retaliation Massacre in Q Roo: 8 Shot Dead, 2 Wounded
VIDEO Guerrero Police Attack Reporter While He is Reporting Live about a Double Murder
A mans heart removed and human remains found in Guanajuato
Gente Nueva dismembered man in Empalme, Sonora
Another Journalist Gone: Rogelio Barragán Perez Found Murdered
7 Dead in Cold Blooded Massacre In Oaxaca
No worries tho that those crossing the border will include any of the bad guys.
Hollywood seems unable to make films about anything other than superheroes ripped from the pages of comic books. Real heroes, like María Santos Gorrostieta Salazar, yeah, no, we’ll pass on a story like that one. As does the left, the media, feminists, etc. Apparently, for whatever reason, she’s not the right kind of hero.
If it weren’t so damned damp -- as it has been every day this week -- I’d have already mowed the front lawn. It’s sunny right now, so if today’s forecast rain holds off long enough to let the front dry, I can mow it in the full afternoon sun and heat. Yay!

I’m glad more of the border wall’s getting built; hope it’s at least somewhat effective.
Happy Caturday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
Sven -- thanks for the link to the article on María Santos Gorrostieta Salazar. I see a lot of pickups driving around with Michoacan proudly emblazoned on their rear windows. I’m sure that failed state is sending us only their best and brightest.
I love limoncello -- that wonderful lemony after-dinner liqueur from Southern Italy. I started making my own several years ago and after a few tweaks, have come up with a recipe and a process that makes a pretty darn good limoncello. When Mrs. Paddy and I were in Italy almost two years ago, we picked up several brands to bring home for comparison. When we had a blind taste-test with friends, my batch won out.
The process is simple, but time consuming, taking a minimum of two months to turn out a decent product. Most of that time is spent waiting. For best extraction of flavor from the lemon zest that is the heart of limoncello, you need a high proof grain neutral spirit. After extraction, the zest is filtered out and the solution diluted with sugar and water to the desired proof and sweetness -- usually around 30 proof. Everclear is one brand of high proof grain neutral spirits that works well. In some states, you can buy 190 proof Everclear. In California, you can only buy 151 proof, but it works well enough.
Having just procurred a bunch of lemons from my MIL’s tree, I planned on making a batch of limoncello. The first step is to head off to BevMo and buy some Everclear, then run it through a filter several times to remove some of the impurities. When I got to BevMo, I noticed that the label on the Everclear bottle had changed -- and so had the proof. Instead of 151 proof, it is now 120 proof. “Where’s the 151 proof Everclear?” I asked. “We’re no longer allowed to sell 151 proof spirits in California.” the helpful clerk replied. Sure enough, no more 151 proof rum was on the shelves, either. When I got home -- sans Everclear, I jumped on the internet (thank you, AlGore) and learned that California has lowered the allowable proof of grain spirits from 151 to 120. Making limoncello is now going to take that much longer, and I’m going to have to adjust the syrup I make to dilute the final product to account for the additional water already in the base spirit.
California -- the state that has legalized recreational marijuana, the state that has made drug use essentially legal (in my MIL’s city, homeless people can be seen shooting up on the streets as police drive by. If they are arrested, their is no place to put them, due to Jerry Brown’s prison realignment, so they release them. Since they are only going to be released immediately, why arrest them in the first place?), has decided that 151 proof spirits are too strong. eff them all.
Happy Caturday, GN!
Another fine thread pic, Mac.

No big plans today -- how about you, Fatwa? Oh, that’s right -- you’ll be mowing the lawn.

Morning rant --

Heya, Paddy!
That sucks about the booze situation in CA; Sacramento (among other places) needs an enema.
Amazingly, it appears the 191 proof stuff is legal in GA. (Had to look online, as I’ve not purchased any spirits since I moved here.)
I’d offer to ship you some, but…that’s illegal!!1!
Criminy…the peasants of America should be a lot more revolting than they are. 👿
Thanks, Fatwa. I looked into that and learned the same thing. D@mn meddlesome politicians!
And thrice damn the mouth-breathing droolers who elect them.
Droll:
I don’t believe Ive ever had limoncello before, Paddy. I did just buy a bottle of it at the market to try out.
Put it in the freezer and serve it ice cold in small glasses -- 1-2 ounces. There is a huge variety and every town thinks there’s is the best.
Reading the news out of El Paso. It’s unfathomable. And we’ll be up to our asses in gun control statements and schemes by the end of the night.
I just don’t know anymore.
I’ve been at a memorial service for a friend of mine and hadn’t heard about that. Thanks for the heads-up, Sven. I agree -- unfathomable.
