I’ve had problems with images, unless I used the buttons to upload images from my computer. If I use HTML, the images don’t appear. If I go to the WordPress Dashboard and edit the post there, using the insert image button, it works -- and all it does is insert the same HTML I thought I was using. IOW, I ain’t got a clue!
Top o’ teh (Standard Time) mornin’, DV8, Mac, Paddy and Wheelizens everywhere!
We got out purloined hour back; yay! I shall jealously guard it until the gummint bastards take it away again in March.
Hey…perhaps we should start a Sovereign Time Citizen movement and refuse to acknowledge the switch to DST next year. Instead, we should insist that times be stated like old TV promos:
Morning Fatwa. I’ve often thought this was a huge waste of time and effort and productivity.
I’ve also thought that maybe places far north like Portland, OR should Stay on Daylight time all year because then in the winter you’d have a hour or so of daylight at home after a “normal” work day, in stead of driving to work in the dark and coming home in the dark.
ALSO: How do I post links in here. I totally forgot… Do I use HTML tags or what? There’s buttons down below but they seem to be for pictures, videos or other files.
I wanted to refer you (in particular) to the last answer I made to you in yesterday’s post.
I took some pictures for you, but I think everyone had gone to sleep by then or signed off.
I think HTML tags still work for images; since you have “Editor” privs, you can click “Edit” on Mac’s thread header and see how he handles them.
I did see the pics of your rig you posted yesterday. Maaaaaan, do you regularly buff the pedals on your Roland controller? They were all shiny and pristine-looking. 🙂
I’ve got a couple of standalone sustain pedals (no una corda or sostenuto) with a plastic cover, so the metal bit stays shiny. No manufacturer on them, but they’re made in Italy, I suspect they’re from Fatar as the instruments they came with have Fatar keyboards.
I wish we would have talked more about making music even back in the day. To be honest I was having a pretty hard time back then. I guess I didn’t have as much room in my head for a lot of things I should have been doing, thinking, or working on.
What’s cool is that you’re still making music. (And I’d love to hear some of it as you deem appropriate.)
I’ve been dragging my ass on putting my “dream band” together (although I have almost completed Phase One, which is arranging 30+ tunes for five horns and a rhythm section.
But the thought of embarking on finding the right players here intimidates the hell outta me. (One of the few things -- aside from some “near and dear” folks and a few restaurants -- I miss about L.A. is that I’ve never lived in another place where the average schmuck musicians were so businesslike. (Flakes there got weeded-out pretty brutally.)
I remember when Fatar used to make actions for lots of weighted action keyboard brands. They are still going strong, I guesss. My triple pedal is from Roland the A-88 comes with a single one. But now, all three pedal inputs are graded, so they make a triple pedal for it now. So I upgraded. As a classically trained dude, I use the soft pedal a lot when I play, and the PianoTeq Soft pedal modeling is credible.
When I relocated to Cleveland from L.A. in ’04, I had forgotten that the latitude change meant that around the summer solstice, it stayed light until nearly 10:00 p.m.
I kind o’ liked that…probably as it was reminiscent of my long-gone yout’.
I am very tech ignorant (or lame). For images I use Photobucket. I use the HTML in threads but in comments the direct links. For links to articles or You-tube I just copy and paste from the address bar. Gifs have not worked for me for some time. Fatwa and Paddy are both more knowledgeable than I am. Sorry.
I usually play with socks so that keeps them buffed I guess.
That reminded me of the myth of Victorians covering the legs on furniture and pianos due to prudishness. Apparently some folks did so to protect the elaborately carved legs from being damaged, which seems more plausible to me.
Yes many of the modern takes on Victorian times are basically marxist constructions. For example, Sisters used to write about “smothering each other in kisses when they saw each other again after being separated. But there was nothing sexual nor prudish, for that matter, about it. So many things in Victorian culture that do not translate well to modern paradigms.
So here’s a weird thing that I still don’t know what to make of. I’d appreciate your thoughts.
A week ago, Thursday, 10/24, the power was out/had been out here. Our next door neighbors have a generator and invited us over for sandwiches and to watch the NFL game and the fire coverage. Mrs Sven wasn’t home, but I said we’d be over. She got tied up at work and so I went over by myself – that was about 7:00. I locked the house up. Mrs Sven got home and came over about 8:00. About 8:45 or so, I said I was heading home – Mrs Sven said she’d stay a little longer and that I’d probably be mad because she hadn’t locked the front door.
The front door has a deadbolt that is keyed both sides. Then there’s the door knob lock. Inside and below that, I installed a flip lock like this one: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Gatehouse-White-Steel-flip-Action-Door-Lock/3407910. If you aren’t familiar with these, they lock from the inside only and provide a bit more security than a chain lock although you can’t open the door even partially. It’s a tight fit.
I get to the front door, turn the knob, and push in. Nothing. The door doesn’t budge. Shit I think, she locked the deadbolt. OK. Pull out my keys, turn the deadbolt, which doesn’t seem to be engaged. Turn the knob, push. Nothing. I give it a good shove with my shoulder. Nothing. Retry the locks thinking that maybe I’m tired and accidentally relocked the door – shove
again. Nothing.
The only thing I can think of is that the hallway door opened, it’s a heavy solid wood door that opens towards the front door, and somehow got wedged between the door knob and the frame. I’m stuck -- I can’t think of any way in except getting up to the second story balcony and then through the patio door there if that isn’t locked.
I go back to the neighbors. Knock, go inside and ask Mrs Sven if she was in the hall closet and explain the situation. She says no, says probably the hallway carpet got stuck under the door, and we go back to our house. That’s maybe two or three minutes max. Up to the front door, turn the knob, throw my shoulder into it, and the door flies open. It wasn’t like I was able to partially open the door before and it was hitting something and when it did open, it opened normally. No resistance at all.
I’m a bit freaked by this. I go in first, Mrs Sven behind me. There’s some battery powered lanterns that we had left on, so some light and we both have flashlights. Nothing in the kitchen, nothing in the front hallway area. I check the living room – nothing there. I move back to the hallway and send Mrs Sven for the revolver in the living room, which is still there. Thinking back on this, I should have grabbed the revolver when I first checked the living room. I tell her to back me up and we go room to room. Nothing downstairs – nothing in the garage. No sign of disturbance. No unusual sounds although it’s windy out. The downstairs patio door is closed and locked. The cat appears – he seems untroubled. I go upstairs, Mrs Sven with gun and flashlight behind me. Clear those rooms. The balcony patio door is closed, but unlocked. I check the balcony, roof, and yard. Nothing. Back downstairs, I get the powerful work lamp and check outside and the street. I see or sense nothing.
Today I replaced the flip lock – the last few times I set it, it seemed loose. Comparing it to the new one, it appears bent exactly like it had been forced out of true by someone trying to force the door.
An explanation is that someone entered the house and engaged the flip lock. Then heard me while I was mucking around trying to get in, waited for me to leave and then exited by the front door. Arguments against that are the undisturbed cat, nothing taken, nothing disturbed, and our location – Fatwa and Paddy, you’ve been here and know how remote it is. There were no cars on the street, pitch black out, and windy. If it were local kids, I have a hard time accepting that they could be that ballsy and calm.
Good Morning Gerbils!!!
Good morning, dv8.
Morning, MAc!
How do I post a link in here?
…redacted…
What I’m working on now is live streaming improv. But I’m still doing gaming even though there is nothing distinct about that.
A blessed Sabbath, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, dv8, and Mac!
It’s another beautiful day in paradise -- I’m sure Gavin Newsome will attempt to do something about that.
Hey Paddy!!! How do I post links again in here and or link to pics? I’m a little rusty in here : )
Dunno about images (I’ve just been uploading them directly from my ‘puter to the site).
URL links can simply be posted and will automatically become clickable, like this:
http://ace.mu.nu/
I’ve had problems with images, unless I used the buttons to upload images from my computer. If I use HTML, the images don’t appear. Off to church, see y’all later!
thanks, I’ll do that. Off to Church for us too…. See you all later.
And …. Back again.

Oh cool, I’m glad you saw them. I’ll figure out the links thing. As far as the pedals go, I usually play with socks so that keeps them buffed I guess.
Heh.

Don’t “should” on yourself; shit happens.

Just did a quick search; they’re Fatar pedals.
(Kind of neat they’ve become the keybed supplier to so much of the industry.)
I remember when Fatar used to make actions for lots of weighted action keyboard brands. They are still going strong, I guesss. My triple pedal is from Roland the A-88 comes with a single one. Whereas I don’t have a real need for a triple pedal, as I ain’t that good. 😉
So glad that PianoTeq worked-out for you!
When I relocated to Cleveland from L.A. in ’04, I had forgotten that the latitude change meant that around the summer solstice, it stayed light until nearly 10:00 p.m.

In my case, that’s a pernicious falsehood, sir. 🙂
Harrumph! Harrumph, I say!
Voiceless bilabial fricative!!
I heard that!!!
Great! Now I have to clean the monitor!

I honestly don’t know what to think. Any ideas?
