Last night, none of the sidebar links worked properly; today, they work but don’t seem to have very useful information. And the info about the number of cases and deaths is 36 hours old. Another great job by gummint!!1!
Is roofing an “essesntial job”? Dunno…the site uses that term but doesn’t even vaguely define it.
Rumor -- my BiL the trucker just called -- said from talking to some gasoline haulers that something is coming down in CA to limit gasoline supply so keep a full tank.
I can’t tell from CA’s hastily cobbled-together website if JimCo is “essential” or not:
The California State Public Health Officer and Director of the California Department of Public Health is ordering all individuals living in the State of California to stay home or at their place of residence, except as needed to maintain continuity of operation of the federal critical infrastructure sectors, critical government services, schools, childcare, and construction, including housing construction.
It kinda looks like we are, but who the fark can be sure?
More bullshit out of government “We need everyone to be safe, otherwise no one can be safe,” Cuomo said. “So we’re going to put out an executive order today: New York state on pause: Policies that Assure Uniform Safety for Everyone.”
You know how this will play out later -- “gun violence” will be declared a national health emergency and the real battle will begin.
Happy Armageddon Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
Busy morning. Based on Gov. Nuisance’s proclamation, we now need to transition any of our special education students who received in-person services to online services. That means identifying those students, contacting the service providers to see how they plan to implement virtual services, checking to see if the families have internet access, drafting amendments to their Individualized Education Plans, and drafting a letter in consultation with our legal department to send to the families. Oh, and completing this by the end of the day.
I read through the governor’s order and it stated that the 16 critical sectors, as identified by the federal government, don’t have to close down. I looked at that list and you wouldn’t believe what is on that list. If we were to follow the governor’s order, the following would still be allowed to remain open (partial list):
Restaurants
Casinos
Hotels
Theme parks
Arenas, stadiums, zoos
Retail centers and districts, shopping malls
Professional sports
While the governor has issued a state-wide shut-down order, and has issued some relief to schools, we still have to follow federal law regarding special education.
Well, Wheelizens, we are just getting ready for Our trip up to Flagstaff. So far that is unchanged.
We just heard that someone we know has tested positive for the virus, but we haven’t come in contact with them or anyone they know for over a month. He probably caught it foolishly going to a business conference in LA around 2 weeks ago.
He got back from India about a month ago, and when I heard he went to India, I thought he was nuts then, but was glad he got back safe. I assumed wrongly he’d be sensible enough to know not to travel again.
But no.
Anyway it’s been 10 days and he has no symptoms yet.
I’ll let you all know when we get back what Teh Big Surprise(tm) was.
Back from the eye doctor- they are closing down their offices out here. In my case, I’m in a holding pattern -- cornea still eroded, so another bandage and then a trip to the outer lands to see him again next Tuesday.
Stopped by my Catholic Church on the way home today -- I knew Mass had been cancelled, but was surprised that the whole Church was locked up tight. I had wanted to just sit inside and pray a bit, but noooooooooooo.
Well Gerbils! We are back home and (theoretically) safe.
The surprise was as follows:
Since I couldn’t go into the infusion center, I had to wait outside. In the meantime, unbeknownst to me, a couple of missionaries that we became very close to…
(we have often had the missionaries over for dinner over the years)
…had been reassigned to Flagstaff. So Harper coordinated with them to drop by and hang out with me while I was waiting. One of these dudes is kind of a kindred spirit, so we have a lot of nerdy computer/music stuff to talk about.
We had a great visit, and Harper was able to visit with them as well for a short time before she went in and after she got done.
Happy Anthropomorphized Trash Panda Friday, Wheelizens!
Here’s a link to CA’s hastily-implemented Covid-19 Response website:

California government is asshoe [sic].
BBL
But a pleasant, well-meaning, concerned, asshoe.

Best use ever of the China soundbite.
MemeMachine is awesome by the way.
I’m going to take a wild guess that gun stores are not considered an essential business.
Hi, Sven!
I certainly consider them essential.
Especially when the government’s emptying jails…but I’m a known malcontent and trouble-maker.
You, Fatwa? Malcontent? I never noticed.
I try to keep it hidden, hence my declaration. 🙂
At least you concur I’m a trouble-maker.
Looking at the thread pic, I still wonder how coons ever lost out to cats as companions of choice.

California’s song.
Teh bestest place ever is apparently considered an “essential business” and we, including corporate, will continue on.
Glad to see that.

I’d say you are, but then again I’m a proponent of giving Gov. Nuisance the rigid digit.
Good thoughts for traveling gerbils today, especially those in AZ!

My apologies -- I’m in a sour mood this morning.

JFC.
We need a lot more Esso stations across this great nation. OTOH, lampposts are readily available in most of our country. 👿

“Rigid Digit” -- good name for a band.

On my way back, I did find a “Jewish” deli run by by a Chinese looking woman that was open and bought a dozen bagels. Price gouged, but not too bad.
Stopped by my Catholic Church on the way home today -- I knew Mass had been cancelled, but was surprised that the whole Church was locked up tight. I had wanted to just sit inside and pray a bit, but noooooooooooo.

It truly was a wonderful surprise.
How cool is that? It’s very cool.
