Jerrie and Fatwa, and to whomever else it may concern:
I have recently received an email telling me that Andy Torba has released a secure alt-tech version of meeting software to compete with ZOOM.
This is the guy who created “Gab” to compete with the Twitter leftist echo chamber. I haven’t looked into what it’s called yet, or where to get it.
But it sounds promising. Torba usually does good work.
I mention this because trepidation over ZOOM sort of cancelled the virtual Gerbilee/GerbilTV so maybe we can move it to that platform if it is indeed ready for use. Torba announced the roll-out a couple of days ago, so it may be available already.
If you can’t go out for fajitas and a beer, is it really Friday?
G’morning, dv8!
“Wow! Fatwa looks like the coolest dude ever!” That was my honest reaction.
There’s no self-deprecating response possible without also grievously insulting dv8; I think that’s dirty pool, sir. 😉
(Also wondering where those pics might have originated; I’m thinking the K8-E / PMK-hosted pig roast when Ottava drove down many moons ago. Bme and her family were also in attendance at that event.)
Beginning today in GA, it’s legal for gyms, barbershops, hair salons, nail salons to reopen with some restrictions; Monday, theatres and restaurants may do the same. I very much hope it all goes well. (LambiePieK and I will be watching the results over the next several weeks; not in a rush to be “early adopters”.)
I’ll be curious about Torba’s meeting app, as even “somewhat secure” GerbilTV sounds like fun. (Personally, more concerned about spyware / malware than someone eavesdropping on any online shenanigans.)
“The experiment has been tried. The casualties have been counted. California’s new ammunition background check law misfires and the Second Amendment rights of California citizens have been gravely injured,” Benitez wrote in a 120-page opinion granting the group’s motion for a preliminary injunction.
I wonder if all the people that bought ammunition since the law into effect and paid the fees for background checks will be reimbursed if this is ultimately found to be un-Constitutional?
As we talk about reopening the economy and heading back to work, based on what I’ve seen so far, many companies are going to mandate the wearing of face masks while onsite. I know for sure that teh bestest place ever already has that in place for its distribution centers and retail stores. The manufacturing line at Mrs Sven’s place has it as well. I wonder about the possible side effects of wearing face masks for extended periods of time and a company’s liability.
Interesting article. Face mask also causes fogging of my glasses, which is a damned nuisance.
Had my annual physical earlier this week; first week in more than a month my Doc’s office has been seeing patients. Had to wear a face mask and call from the parking lot; they grilled me and took my temp before letting me in the office. (Had to take my temp thrice as it was a cold morning; heh.)
All personnel were wearing masks.
(I’m also probably going to remain corporeal for a while; yay. Blood pressure so improved they took it twice with two different devices. Doc has no explanation and was upfront about that, which is one of the reasons I like him.)
This week at pharmacy, Walmart and Sprouts, many -- but nowhere near all -- staffers wearing face masks; customer face masks ~50%.
At one point during the physical, I had to strip down to nothing but skivvies and face mask. Doc came into exam room and I told him I felt like I was in a porn video. (He “gets” me.)
Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, dv8, Fatwa, and Sven!
dv8 -- thanks for the info on the video conferencing software.
Fatwa -- that’s good news regarding opening up businesses in GA. In CA there are currently no plans to change anything. I’m way overdue for a physical, but offices are closed.
I hope GA opening up their economy doesn’t lead to a spike in Covid-19 cases; someone needed to test those waters and I’m hoping for a positive outcome.
In CA there are currently no plans to change anything.
I know; we have no idea when we’re going to be able to start that JimCo megajob; frustrating.

Doing my weekly backup to a portable 1T HD; quite a bit faster than using a thumb drive.
Well, another happy work from home work week draws to a close. Looks like this will last at least until the middle of May if not longer. Thank you, God, for keeping me employed.
Good Morning Wheelieos!

That’s a cool image -- thanks.
and I hope that reopening goes with a hitch.
GOOD!

Hi, Sven!
Yeah…try getting fees back from the government. 👿
