Given how dusty removing ~40-y.o. roofs can get, there was certainly some occasional coughing on the JimCo project site. Most homeowners / tenants “got it”; a few were assholes. (Including some who took umbrage that guys weren’t wearing masks on roofs in 100+º weather and thought that they ought to perform physically-demanding labor while wearing-sweat-soaked masks. Because “safety”.)
Hope the CA contingent isn’t having too much of an issue with the rolling brownouts. (Which I remember well from decades ago.)
I’m sure more renewables will fix that…but not that evil, poisonous nuclear shit. Bird-killing windmills and solar boilers are much better for the environment,
And solar panel mandates will help create more affordable housing; I’m just sure of it.
It doesn’t seem like my head clears from sleep as quickly as usual, but that could be because I downloaded an app recommended by a friend “Relax -- Andrew Johnson”. Well worth the $2.50. Consciously, I don’t get through a quarter of it and I’m out. Hard. Until I get wrapped up in the headphones and wake up momentarily to untangle myself.
Still lots of fluids, with a serving each of Gatorade and Pedialyte (separately, of course).
I’m just going to keep being easy. I’m stronger than I look, but my brains are my asset and I’m guarding them. Closely.
I was glad to hear that you were safely home from California. I always worry about the Gerbils still living behind the Paisley Curtain. I found it a strange place when I lived there and that was clear back in the ’80’s when things weren’t nearly as extreme.
Honestly, am I the only one who looks st this logo and sees Donald Trump’s profile in the Zero as plain as day?
It’s supposed to be the state of Wisconsin. They just didn’t have an autistic person (me, for example) look at it and tell them to put something else in the “0” instead.
Honestly, I would have told them it looks just fine. They should pos def go for it.
Hottest day of the week forecast for today -- 110. Still have power, but no water. It went out overnight and it won’t be until noon before it gets restored. Maybe. Good thing there’s no fires around us at the moment.
Speaking of fires, a handy map -- Northern CA is getting hit hard. There’s a link on this page that maps all current known fires -- SoCal ain’t doing bad comparatively speaking. https://napsg.maps.arcgis.com/home/index.html
TBH, I don’t see Trump’s profile in that logo. (I think it’s a silhouette of Wisconsin.)
“Paisley Curtain”…heh. If only the biggest problems there were still idjits prancing about wearing fringed suede boots / jackets and flowers in their hair collecting STDs.
And Reagan as Governor. With a diverse, robust economy and excellent schools.
Sven --
Hope that you get your water back on soon. And that the digging is related, rather than being another infrastructure problem.
Apparently the poorly-watched DNC circus last night ended with this cringe-worthy bit of music:
Almost all the networks cut away immediately after Michelle Obama's speech to do analysis meaning you are currently missing this pic.twitter.com/34YivVSq0h
I remember when that song was originally released as a commentary on the Sunset Strip curfew riots in late ’66. Liked it as 10-y.o. kid because it sorta resonated with my family’s involvement in the civil rights movement.
(Even did a funk arrangement of it in the event I get off my ass and put my “dream band” together.)
But that version from last night was unimaginative garbage. “Let’s drag out a doddering Stephen Stills and add some hasty elements of ‘modern’ production. Oooh…and we’ll get a black guy in a ‘Matrix’-y -looking duster to show we’re hip and down with the brothers.”
Are the guitarist or the singer famous? I don’t recognize either. Funny too the lyrics “Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong” as the left sees themselves always right and righteous.
Happy Tuesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, Harper!!, Sven, and dv8!
Fatwa -- I guess those homeowners were concerned that the corona would drift down from the roof and selectively infect them with lyme disease.
Sven -- I hope your water gets turned back on sooner, rather than later (and that no fires break out in the meantime). Great time to be doing road work.
Harper -- now that you’ve pointed it out, I can’t unsee it.
Oh! and that is a hideous bit of “music” and “dancing”.
We peaked at 111 about an hour ago -- dropping down to 107 now. The water is back on, but there’s a lot of air in the lines. It will take hours to bleed it out and hopefully it doesn’t bust a pipe in the house. I already got one line clogged with the dirt that’s flowed in. If it stays at one only, that will be a win.
Wow! They didn’t flush the lines through a fire hydrant? I guess you’re supposed to thank them for providing a basic service, no matter how poorly it’s provided.
It’s a house thing -- happens every time. The county was supposed to put a valve in to keep the water from flowing downhill when it shuts off, but they never did. I can do something similar at the line where it goes into the house, but never got around to it.
Went outside to thank the guys -- they’ve been working, like actually working not sitting around, for the last 9 hours. Unfortunately, they’ve put in a temporary fix as they didn’t have the right parts and we’ll go through this again later.
According to the guy around the corner’s dingus for Weather Underground, it only feels like 104° -- on the app. On the site it says 111°. I think the app is the more correct reading.
Hi EveryGerbillyBody!
“Paisley Curtain”. I like it! And … I’ll never unsee Trumps profile in the state of Wisconsin again, that’s for sure.
And a visit from Plaguie!!!!!! Yay!
Other than that, it’s the same-old, same-old. Had an interview for Art Gallery Director last Saturday that I thought went fairly well … and have since been notified by Indeed that the position’s “closed”. Which could mean anything.
Mr. TeX *did* talk to the guy with the auto shop and he’s highly interested, so I’ll see if I can’t chat with him in person tomorrow.
And there’s still the Scribe and Pharmacy Tech thing hanging around too.
So, a couple spinning plates and who knows which’ll come down first.
Buh.
She and a group of women were convicted of illegally voting and fined $100. She refused to pay and the judge (a SCOTUS justice) refused to jail her so that she couldn’t appeal to the Supreme Court.
Tuesday salutations, Wheelizens!

BBL.
Yeah, 50-100′ above their heads.
And oh yeah, heat stroke. Ask me how I know.
Hi, TeX!!
Tell us about your adventures with heat stroke.
How y’all feeling?

Donald Trump’s profile
Huh. Once pointed out, yes. What is it supposed to be?
It’s supposed to be the state of Wisconsin. They just didn’t have an autistic person (me, for example) look at it and tell them to put something else in the “0” instead.
Honestly, I would have told them it looks just fine. They should pos def go for it.
Huh. So that’s what Wisconsin looks like. Are there actually convention people there or is it all virtual?
Not sure, but they originally booked a building that looked like Trump’s Hair. So………..
considering they originally rented out a hall whose roof looked like Donald Trump’s hair, it shouldn’t surprise anyone.
Good morning, Fatwa. And Miss Harper!!!

Well that’s not good -- they are digging up the road 100 yards down the hill.
Hiya, Harper (!!!) and Sven!

Always good advice:
Fatwa:
It’s on the left side looking the opposite direction of the picture of Trump that Harper posted. But looking upward in a similar fashion.

So cringe….

That was “modern” production? I expected to see MC Hammer step out at any moment.
Heh.
*Na na na na plink plink naaaa naaaa* “CAN’T STAND THIS!”
“Modern” in this instance being a drum machine and some samples. So…ca. early ’80s “modern”.
Should have at least gone hip-hop with a Roland 808 kick and snare drum but were probably worried soccer mom’s would find that icky. 👿
That was Stephen Stills????
Yup.
The “Weekend At Bernie’s” version.
Are the guitarist or the singer famous? I don’t recognize either. Funny too the lyrics “Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong” as the left sees themselves always right and righteous.

The temperature has reached a “feels like” of 108°F.
I’m sure it’s worse for Sven and Mrs. Sven.

I had no idea that Susan B. Anthony needed to be pardoned, but I wonder why Obama teh Messiah didn’t do it?
