No smoke out here, but it’s still hot, with no ocean breeze.
Today is the last day at work for the person we hired this summer. She’s been an absolute disaster. I wish we could have gotten rid of her before the start of school. The new hire has spent this week training and seems to be picking up on things. I think she’ll work out.
I’m listening to a Baroque song collection -- I’ll have to look it up later as to what “baroque” actually means, but I’m enjoying it. Does seem awfully white tho judging from the paintings that are going along with it -- I should probably feel tremendous guilt over it.
It’s entertaining -- definitely not boring. At times, not being snakry here, it’s uplifting. I don’t have the skills or the ear to tell the differences or understand its nuances, but it’s enjoyable and a nice break from my usual background music.
I think the Baroque period would be from 1600 to 1750. I like Bach and Handel but I think I prefer the Classical period, from 1750 to 1820. The composers I most love are there. A lot of good music from both periods.
In terms of sacred choral music, I enjoy many of the baroque composers: Praetorius, Sweelinck, Gibbons, Purcell, Handel, Bach. I also enjoy composers from earlier and later periods. :shrugs:
Baroque was actually a criticism of the music as being too ornate or frilly, and I can agree it is a bit but I enjoy it and it is so much better than the newer “classical” music I wish they had known how good they had it. In any case I think it has lost all the negative connotation it once was meant to express.
Elena just came in to tell me. I am afraid neither of us were upset. She has done a lot of damage to our Country. Elena was excited at the idea Trump could rush through a replacement but I told her I doubted it would or should happen that way. We were talking about the idea she avoided retiring under Obama so Hillary could appoint her replacement. If playing PC politics like that results in Trump appointing her replacement, I wonder if the Dems will turn on her for it.
There are many Dems who have been upset since Trump’s election that RBG didn’t retire.
While I expect civility in the obituaries from major news sources, I was disappointed that Fox news said she had ” a commitment to upholding the Constitution.” In her own words she had almost contempt for the Constitution.
Interesting political waters Trump now finds himself in. If he was actually a Conservative, I think he’d ram his SCOTUS pick through right now. He has to be thinking even if he wins, what’s going to happen to the Senate?
Does he weigh the advantages for reelection? Which side gets more motivated if he holds off? Assuming that there were a fair election coming up and that’s not near certain.
It does put more pressure on Joey Basement to disclose his picks now as Trump has already done.
Even if Trump tried to start confirmation proceedings now, I think Mitch McConnell would hold things up in the Senate. Mitch really doesn’t want another Constitutionalist on the bench.
Friday. At last.
Good morning, GN!
Man, still smoky out here. Hardly seems fair as the nearest fire is like 30 miles from here.
Happy Friday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!

That’s good news moving forward, Paddy.

What do you think of it?

Justice Ginsburg dead. That makes the election all the more interesting.
I was devastated when I heard of Scalia’s death -- this one not so much. She should have retired from the bench years ago.

I agree with you there. I said to Elena she was one of those who rewrote the Constitution to suit PC.
Trump is still doing his campaign rally -- I think his staff is smart not to interrupt him with the news. Who knows what he would say off the cuff?
L’shana tova, Gerbil Nation!
Have a good year.
