Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Happy Grille-Cat-Is-Watching-You-Do-That-Thing Wednesday, GN!

Be sure to give them a nice warm Southern welcome, Fatwa.

Double-aught buckshot gets kinda warm, doesn’t it? đź‘ż

=================

With all of the “oddities” surrounding this election, I wish there were some news sources I believed to be trustworthy and objective, with the resources to really dig into the apparent anomalies.

My gut feeling is there was a lot of jiggery-pokery (is that now a rayciss term?) in several places, but my fee-fees don’t make it so.

What a clusterfark; bah!

I feel the same way, Fatwa. There’s a lot of allegations coming from the Trump side that remind me of the gleeful “bombshell” stories that came from the left against Trump the last 4 years. Nestled in there are some stories that seem legitimate, but separating those out is next to impossible. And measuring the impact???

I believe that voter fraud to some extent has always occurred in our elections. I believe that with the changes in technology the last 30 years, that there’s been more of it because there’s more ways to do it. I also believe that both parties know this and have agreed to look the other way.

On the other hand, Trump is not a political party creature and that’s been one of his strengths. Being an outsider, he’s asked questions that were never asked before like why are there still US troops in Afghanistan or what’s the purpose of NATO. And he’s doing the same thing with this election.

AoS linked to this article -- it’s worth reading even if you aren’t a wrestling fan: https://humanevents.com/2020/11/17/why-i-still-care/

“Wrestling fans love what is sometimes called a “screw job”—scenarios where someone is unfairly granted a win, either because the referee is incapacitated, or because one wrestler makes use of an illegal object, or because of some other wild turn of events. As I watched the maskless hordes in New York and Washington, celebrating Biden’s “victory” and sharing champagne bottles, it dawned on me: American democracy is fake. Just like pro wrestling, American democracy is fake. For decades, I have followed politics not only because the stakes are high, but because I believed I had a small role in determining the outcome of the contests. But I do not.”

From the end of the article:

But resignation is just another form of consent—and consent is all that autocracy asks from us. If we truly value our freedom, and we believe in our dignity as American citizens, we need to care more, not less. We need to reject the spectatorship that the great powers of our society offer to us under the name of “participation.” The question now is how to act under the new regime in ways that affirm individual agency and transcend the symbolic forms of participation that allow the system to maintain the veneer of democracy.

Put differently, we must re-envision what “participation” in political life means.

In “normal” times, this would be, quoting Biden here, a big fuc*in’ deal.

Happy Ductwork Kitteh Wednesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!

Busy morning. Lot’s of drama going on at work.

According to my county’s health director, the surge in COVID-19 cases isn’t traceable back to restaurants, gyms, etc., but to large public and private gatherings. So it makes perfect sense to shut down restaurants, gyms, etc. and take no action against favored large public gatherings. What a world.
