Fatwa Arbuckle: Misanthropologist

Well that’s an unexpected furry protein in teh pasta.

Got a particularly stupid email from “Bernie”, one of the Evil Board Members at HH-A HOA yesterday. Bernie is -- according to his Facebook page -- about my age, originally from Yonkers NY, was a credit collections manager for many years before obtaining a Masters in English and is currently a Los Angeles Unified English teacher.

If you assumed he writes extremely poorly, you would be correct. (Bonus points if you also assumed he thinks we’re stupid ’cause we’re roofers.)

I suspect he considers himself a badass.

A polite, über-terse, responsive and completely non-helpful email reply will be sent to him -- and his numerous “cc”s -- about 05:45 his time in hopes it’ll be the piss in his cornflakes this morning. 👿

Jim did contact a lawbaw yesterday; I’ll learn more today, I reckon.

In the meantime, have much stuff to do along with continued CA Building Code research. Bah!

Hi, Fatwa -- good morning, GN. Re: Bernie, I’m sure all English teachers consider themselves badasses -- it’s like a prerequisite for the job.

I was reading the Raider’s statement that only vaccinated people can attend their games in Las Vegas. A few things struck me.

  1. NFL players do not have to be vaccinated. Glen Reynolds’ take on global warming “I’ll start taking this seriously when you start acting like it’s serious” comes to mind.
  2. They are really pushing fans to use an app on their phones as proof of vaccination. What could possibly go wrong with a third party having access to your health information?
  3. If you don’t have the approved app, then you can present your vaccination card and a govt issued ID with photo to gain entry. I’ve been hearing forever about how hard it is for people to get govt IDs -- isn’t this an undue burden? You’ll also have to go through an alternate screening/entrance procedure.
  4. If you have a medical exemption or a religious objection to vaccination, too bad. You cannot be accommodated.
  5. If you have natural immunity due to a previous covid infection and don’t need to be vaccinated, too bad. You aren’t getting in to the stadium.

If I was still a fan, I’d be mightily miffed about this.

It’s pretty clear that those in charge are doing everything they can to not just force you to get vaccinated, but to prove to anyone that asks that you are vaccinated. Caste system, anyone?

Wading through some Australian govt docs on the building of their quarantine detention center, one of the helpful FAQs is “What will the hub be used for after the covid-19 pandemic is over?” and it made me laugh because if there’s one thing that is apparent it’s that the pandemic will never be over.

Happy Wednesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!

Thanks to Mac’s thread pic, we now know that spaghetti does not grow on trees, like the BBC wants us to believe, but instead comes from gerbils.

Many of you, I’m sure, will have seen pictures of the vast spaghetti plantations in the Po valley.

Oh, yes, of course, quite.

I woke up way too early this morning, but I zoomed through work last night; everything went as “well” as it could. I even managed to complete yesterday’s route sheet update before the papers arrived. (and I only made 3 mistakes which I fixed after I got back.

Still haven’t joined a monero mining pool, but I’m looking into it. It’s about 11:30 am, so I guess I got enough sleep actually, now that I think about it.

I’m trying to think of something productive to do with the day, but it escapes me.

Drive-by:

Hi, Sven, Paddy and dv8 (and Harper!!1!)!

As of about an hour ago, we have an attorney on the case. (He’s the guy we should have had 15+ years ago; very sharp and a freakin’ bulldog.)

I’m sure all English teachers consider themselves badasses — it’s like a prerequisite for the job.

Heh.

Yesterday’s email from Bernie:

I am the recipient of your bill for $12,050.00. Were any parts of this bill related to the buildings of punctured A/C Unit pipes [JimCo] caused?

Furthermore, why are you billing us for something a year old? We find this very peculiar at best.

Please respond to me by email only.

Note the shit grammar and ham-fisted attempt to indict JimCo.

My response:

In response to your 08/17/21 queries re our invoice #XXXXX:

1) The invoice is very clear, as is the cover letter which accompanied it.

2) Because we are within our rights to do so.

There were around 8 “cc”s on it, including some attorney specializing in HOAs.

Fark ’em all.

I love #2. I bet there was a comma after “so” followed by “you asshole” that you deleted.

Anyone remember the excess rains in the 90’s that caused problems with the North Carolina marshmallow crop?
