Holy cow…no wonder Zappa used to credit Vai as playing “stunt guitar”.
While I’m not intimately familiar with Vai’s oeuvre, I was stunned by his ability to transcribe and perform in unison with Zappa’s sprechstimme on “The Jazz Discharge Party Hats”:
Thomas Binger is a Grade A putz. Aside from a shockingly inept case, his utter lack of cognizance re gun safety was pretty appalling. Not clearing weapon, booger hook on bang switch, muzzle-sweeping gallery, etc. Also, where was the rear sight on the gun? In the videos of Riot Night, it appeared to have some sort of optic on it…which is probably now on the personal rifle of some Kenosha Kop.
Also loved the way that in the preposterous closing arguments, “Fatlock” Krause asserted that Rittenhouse ought to have permitted himself to be beaten and was a coward for not allowing himself to be assaulted.
IMO, it should be permissible for anyone who sees Krause in public to simply walk up and paste him one without any consequence or self-defense by Fat Bastard. 👿
Well…it’s in the jury’s hands now; I hope they reach truly just verdicts on all counts.

I hope the jury does as well, but after the defense’s closing I’m not so sure they will. Being right doesn’t always lead to the correct outcome.
The facts are all on Rittenhouse’s side, but yet there he is -- an 18-year old guy in a courtroom on trial for his literal life. The defense correctly recognized that this is a political-show trial that never should have been brought to trial, but while recognizing that reality they refused to play in that arena. Instead, they adopted a Trumpian in-your-face presentation during closing -- attacking the prosecution instead of telling Kyle’s story and defending him. The defense did not play to the jury; by extension, they attacked them. This would have worked easily if there wasn’t a jury, just the judge deciding things, but that’s not the case here.
Trump was right more often than he was wrong, yet it was his refusal to bend, his in-your-face attitude more than the fraud and unfairness of the election that kept him from a second term. Won the battles; lost the war. Facts matter less now than at any other time in America; it’s all about narrative, perceptions, feelings, and power agendas. Unless Kyle’s jury is made up solely of conservatives, he’s going to be convicted.
I’m not surprised that they did this given how they seemingly ignored their client throughout the whole trial. I never saw a single bit of personal interaction between his two attorneys and him and I think that shows in their closing. It won’t cost them anything to lose, but it will cost their client plenty.
Still awake. Last night’s short work day went fine. Not too much trouble from the 100 year old label machine, made by loving hands in 1492 or something.
I need to sleep before The Big Route tonight. But I’m not quite there yet.
Happy (checks calendar) Tuesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, dv8 (and Harper!), Fatwa, and Sven!
I’ve been wading through personal emails this morning, now it’s time to start on the work emails -- payback for daring to take time off. Later, I’ll start reading back threads on Teh Wheel.
I hope all y’all are doing well. We had a great time visiting with Teh Younger. We helped him add some additional light and decor to his apartment and hung a couple of large, framed coastal depth charts that he has. That was an interesting task. It turns out that one of the interior walls was concrete block, with furring strips and drywall covering it.
Thought I would check in from work. Mail is almost done. I have a little…. ahhhh…. down time this morning…. yeah got some “free” ghost pepper chips from am/pm yesterday. In retrospect… not my best move…. they sure were good though.
I have known this feeling. Not with anything that caustic but I have found I like Walmart’s Great Value chips. The BBQ and Nacho cheese chips have had me talking sternly to myself.
And here is Steve Vai playing “Knappsack” one handed after shoulder surgury.
This is amazing.
He makes that one handed technique look so effortless. But one wrong move and it’s disaster.

Back to the salt mines!
Good night and good morning, sir.
welcome back, Paddy -- glad you had a good trip.
Thought I would check in from work. Mail is almost done. I have a little…. ahhhh…. down time this morning…. yeah got some “free” ghost pepper chips from am/pm yesterday. In retrospect… not my best move…. they sure were good though.
Anyway, looks like I can finish in one go tonight.
God willing.
In retrospect… those chips were not free.
No.

Good morning Mac! I just got back from the big route. And… Continued on morning thread…
