Managed to get a lot of JimCo stuff relating to the upcoming rain handled yesterday. Jim, despite being out of town, was uncharacteristically on top of things, which made my day a lot easier. (Along with my awesome cow-workers.)
Credit where credit is due. 🙂
Just read the “The Power of the Dog” essay; lots of nuggets in there. I know movies helped Dad perfect his English after he got to Chicago (he already spoke a fair amount, which was improved by working with the American Office of War Information when they lived in Istanbul after getting out of the camp.)
During his “tenure” with the OWI, he also heard a lot of then-current jazz and it was “love on first hearing” for him. (There’s a story I love about his purchasing a used clarinet from a Turk, as he aspired -- as a stateless kid from Romania -- to be the next Woody Herman. Perhaps later for that.)
When he got to Chicago, the uncle who had sponsored him basically screwed him out of a significant portion of the wages -- which weren’t stellar to begin with -- Dad had been promised.
Nonetheless, he was able to scrimp enough to go see movies and even some live jazz (by nursing a Coke in the “cheap seats”) as a means of “escape” for a few hours. And those things were pretty damned meaningful to him.
I hope to live long enough to see “wokeness” die the horrible death it deserves.
Art is important, even if it’s “only” popular films, TV and music.
The preceding rambles a bit and makes me want to type more, but I’ve got carp to do; BBL.

I hope I live long enough to see sedition tribunals for marxists who have been actively destroying our country since 1914. (we had plenty of proto marxists doing their damage here long before that, if you read about the history of the western states that is very evident. I wish Linux Rob would write a post on this subject. He is something of an expert on it.
Good morning, Dv8, and Fatwa. Apparently yesterday’s “one day of rain this week in SoCal” has been changed to three days.
Glad both of you enjoyed the article -- I’ve really enjoyed her perspective on several topics and picked up a second book from her last week. Related to wokeness and cinema, have you noticed that darn near EVERY commercial you see on teevee is perfectly diverse in its casting? It’s annoying, to me at least regardless of product, as to how contrived they all are.
Against my better judgement yesterday, I watched a mostly intact Raiders team win against the Browns that had 20 players sidelined with covid or injuries. Despite the win, the Raiders suck. How does an organization suck for 30 years? They must work really hard at it.
Looks like your neck of the woods will be getting rain starting tomorrow afternoon; heavy on Thursday and lighter extending into the weekend.
Followed by moar the end of next week.
Since we don’t have a teevee, I haven’t seen any commercials for many years, but have read about the “diversity and equity” in many of them these days.
I wonder if the newly minted hard ass liberals spouting off about the unclean not doing their part for the greater good of society and therefore not being allowed to be part of society, are willing to apply that same standard to welfare recipients, drug addicts, and student loan debtors?
Happy Tuesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good day, dv8 (and Harper!), Fatwa, and Sven!
Busy day, so far. Got moving early so I could get a new set of tires on my vehicle. There’s a local tire dealer that has great prices, but they can be hard to contact. Their website says they open at 7:30, so that’s when I arrived. It turns out they open at 7, so I had a two hour wait. Got home and had to deal with some paperwork for the family partnership. It sure is convenient when businesses you electronic signature programs, and a PITA when you have to print out a form, fill it out by hand, then scan and email it.
Finally pushed myself into putting up more decorations this afternoon. I put some garlands on the trees and such. Also put a wreath on the door last night.
I also put the lid of the piano down last night and harper put the tiny tree on top.
Better late then never.
I put the used boxes up on the appointed shelf. There’s a bit more decorating to go… but well….
Also… My shoulder hurts. I slept on it wrong, I guess. I took a cocktails of anti-inflammatories. We’ll see how that goes.
I feel like Donald Trump doesn’t really get the vaccine thing. He felt like only a few people booed him when he brought it up on O’reilly. But he’s wrong about it.
We know he did his best with it.
And it was amazing getting them out so fast.
But it was more of a disaster and
Less of a success than we hoped for.
Also, he doesn’t realize that:
Because we generally like him a lot,
We don’t want to boo him about anything.
So he’s misreading the room a bit.
on the other hand… He could be right.
If we don’t own the shots and
focus on the positives about them.
If (when) he runs again,
The left will possibly go back to calling it the “Trump Vaccine” and then they will enjoy pointing out all the sudden deaths. and debilitating side effects.
We are somewhat behind on Christmas decorations as they are stored in the attic and my back is a bit sore to get out the ladder and climb up there. Did get the tree up and had a few new ornaments and lights to put on it.
Good night, Cardboard Box Cat, and all the rest.
Perhaps I’ll see you in the afternoon.
Happy “The Cat In The
HatBox” Tuesday, GN!Hi, dv8 (and Harper!!1!)!

You know there’s a book in there about your father’s life.
Truly

Easy…they’re following the Browns’ example. 👿

Drive-by:
You know who else was deemed unclean, not doing their parts and unfit to be part of society in teh ’30s? 😉
Does it start with a “J” and end with a “ws”?

Work night tonight. I’ll have to be careful.
I’ve been trying to take my vitamins lately. Ima do that now also.
Pills, pills, pills…………..

Family Cat is a Family Cat….
Outside decorations
Now that I look at these pictures, it all looks pretty meager, but I’m actually the only one on my block that decorated at all.
It looks nice, dv8! Every little bit of Christmas cheer helps!
Thanks for saying so.
Work/Big Route tonight.
Shoulder is feeling a bit better.
I’ll take some more pills once I get to work.
I have to be careful tonight.
Anyway, I’m off to work pretty soon.
We are somewhat behind on Christmas decorations as they are stored in the attic and my back is a bit sore to get out the ladder and climb up there. Did get the tree up and had a few new ornaments and lights to put on it.
Every little bit helps.
Looks nice.
I love the tree, Sven!
Found a green rope light in my light bulb box I forgot about. I’ll store it with my xmas lights from now on.
I like that walkway.
