Good morning, Sven. I think it was on Facebook. It fit too well. I remember a science fiction short story about a space ship from Earth that encounters a warship from a militaristic species that they can’t outfight or outrun. They convince them that the ship’s cat is an advanced species that rules them but lets them think they are in charge. The aliens are afraid of the power of the cats and runs off, to warn their people to stay away from Earth.
It was a good story from someone who seemed to know cats. I had to share this.I really am their bitch.
I was never a cat person until I met Mrs Sven. For the last 30+ years, we’ve had at least one cat for most of them. Or rather cats have adopted us for food, occasional purrs, wound repair, and shelter. They aren’t the worst creatures in the world.
To me, a house without at least a visiting cat is somehow unnatural and deficient. Fortunately, cats are good neigbors and will drop by these unfortunate homes and look in on them. They will even leave instructions for the local raccoons to keep them in line.
Happy Caturday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Mac, and Sven!
Teh Older’s fiance and Teh Younger flew out yesterday for Mrs. Paddy’s birthday, which is Tuesday. It’s a big one, so we have lots planned. We’re going wine tasting in Temecula today, then my MiL rented a suite for tomorrow’s baseball game, where we’ll be joined by extended family and a few friends. Monday and Tuesday are Disneyland (yeah, I hate their politics, but we grew up with them and the days of Walt). Teh Younger leaves on Wednesday and Teh Older’s fiance will stay out for a couple of weeks.
I am not really a Star Trek fan, I consider it fantasy rather than science fiction, the “science” is just magic dressed in a lab coat. The best programs in the original series were retelling of other works, Moby Dick and The Enemy Below. I am a bit amazed at the depth of nerdom on Quara. It rivals Tolkien.
Grabbed some breakfast while my program runs -- watched part of a Tim Pool podcast where one of his guests was the 70-year old mother of one of the other guests. They were asking her about her younger days compared to today, and she made a great observation about her life as a young adult in the 60’s. I had to write it down.
“It’s almost like things were serious then and everything is made to be serious now.”
SackO’SugarK’s mostly hangin’ in there right now but is -- understandably -- anxious about a lof of stuff.
Talking to vehicles is essential if you want to keep them happy and running properly.
Agreed…we always try to make Harald (the Yukon) feel like a valued member of the household.
Had a Greenpeacenik stop by CasaK a few days ago; since I had a lot going on, I just told her I was not interested. (Else I might have played around and asked about stuff like nuclear power, etc. and had some mean-spirited fun.)
Got an email Friday; HH-A HOA seems as thought they’re trying to set JimCo up for some moar horseshit. Emailed lawbaw a few minutes ago to keep him apprised and ask how he thinks we should respond (if at all).
I’m not inclined to provide details at present ’cause it’s more typing than I feel like doing at 21:10 on a Saturday night.
Lousy rat bastards.

Good morning, happy Satyrday, GN -- and Mac, where did that come from?

All of life seems to come down to cats, doesn’t it?
They have been part of my life as far back as I can remember. Hard to imagine how insipid life would be without them.

I’m tired just typing all that out.
Mac -- excellent essay!
Good morning Sven and Paddy. Paddy, I hope this all goes great. You must be so happy.

Run faster, little program! Run!

On Tor again. I missed that one. Sounds like a good one. I don’t always catch them all.. i often listen to the IRL podcast live on my work days.

Good to see you made it, but sad to hear the HOA is still going full bastard.
When I talk to my cars it is generally things people should not hear.
Well, teh bestest place ever got their money’s worth out of me this weekend. I’m whupped, but done.
Good to see you, Fatwa; I owe you a call.
Poof
I can not get the image out of my mind of Sven shouting “Qapla!!” at Jack Tatum and the cat meowing back boldly, and then trilling at him.
