Finally started using my BBQ. I guess I was daunted by the learning curve. I think I get discouraged pretty easily these days.
This grill, I guess it’s best to warm it up for a few minutes and then turn the burners down to low. It did a great job on some chicken I dry brined a while ago. Recently thawed it out and gave it a go.
That’s usually how I run my gas grill. Just like heating a pan up on the stove, I heat it on high to bring it up to the desired temp, then turn it down to maintain that temp.
There have been 2,069 school shootings in America since 1970, according to the Center for Homeland Defense and Security’s Naval Postgraduate School’s K-12 School Shooting Database. But after every shooting, all we see from most Republican lawmakers is idle talk about “locking doors” and the ever-popular “thoughts and prayers.”
That sounds like a lot of school shootings even for 50 years. So I pop over to look at the School Shooting Database. Nice -- you can download their raw data.
And what do you find? “School shootings” include incidents like:
5 windows shot out (at night, after school hours)
Man fatally shot by SRO while trying to break-in to school
Man shot himself in the leg while walking toward the school office
Student pointed gun at another student in bathroom, arrested by SRO with loaded weapon
Teen shot school bus driver 3 times with BB gun
Man fired BBs at moving school bus and other vehicles
Man fatally shot by police when he refused to leave the school
Active shooter response to school for 5 students firing pellet guns for TikTok challenge
4 teens fired pellet guns at crowd leaving basketball game
Student in vehicle pointed BB rifle at school bus causing panic aboard
Police called for student with gun on the playground, arrested student with BB gun
Woman shot her adult son-in-law during a domestic dispute in the parking lot
Teens damaged 46 cars, 7 businesses, and broke 10 windows on a school bus during BB gun shooting spree
Police shot a man armed with a rifle and bow in front of the school
Officer shot student holding knife
Killed his principal after their meeting, discussing how to improve his attitude. (unintentionally funny)
Out of those 2069 incidents, over 400 were suicides. Out of those 2069 incidents, over 1900 reported no injuries, but that may be misleading -- I’m not sure if that’s the shooter or victim. What bullshit. And they wonder why trust in media and institutions is at record lows.
Yeah, it’s not consistent, but then in a country where there is an ever growing number of genders, should we be surprised?
The criteria used for “school shootings” in this database is apparently this:
The definition used for the K-12 SSDB is: a gun is brandished, is fired, or a bullet hits school property for any reason, regardless of the number of victims (including zero), time, day of the week, or reason.

Quite possibly the best thread pic ever -- thanks, Mac!
Happy Monday, GN!

Good morning, Sven!
Excellent thread pic, Mac! Well done, sir!
I wonder what fresh h3ll the Left has in store for us today?
Good morning.
I might be correct in guessing the Twitter deal reversal is a negotiating tactic.
Elon Musk’s latest meme:
Monday short workday. Pay week. Up early again. Probably it will seem like a long night. Hopefully I can get a nap before work.

Hamburgers come out nice on it also.
Good morning, dv8 (and Harper!)!

good to know my instincts are okay : ) thx.
Hi, Paddy, and Dv8 -- good to see you guys.
I was reading this article linked from Real Clear Politics: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion/americans-cant-handle-their-guns-time-to-repeal-the-2nd-amendment/ar-AAZrQs3. It contained this paragraph:

I read some throw-away comment recently about the number of mass shootings in 2022 so far and thought -- what definition are they using?

Hai, Sven, Paddy and dv8!

Also like the Elon Musk meme, dv8; heh!
Hi Fatwa!
I saw Titty-In-A-Wringer open for P3do Peter at the Golden Bear in ’82.
A friend of mine just saw these guys -- interesting sound, but no vocals.
