Good morning, Fatwa -- happy start of the work week, GN.
I know nothing about Giorgia Meloni, but did watch a few videos of her this morning -- I can see why the left hates her. Her historic first of being Italy’s first woman prime minister will be discounted and the comparisons to Mussolini will begin immediately.
Agree. My uncle was in Italy and got to the execution site while the bodies were still hanging. Took some graphic photos that gave me nightmares as a child.
Happy Mouse-y Monday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Fatwa, and Sven!
Mrs. Paddy and I had to get up early to check-in for our flight tomorrow morning on Southwest. I could access things fine, but for some reason Southwest couldn’t find Mrs. Paddy’s reservation. Fortunately I was able to check us both in under the reservation on my phone, but our boarding position is just so-so. We’re heading out to Kansas for a church conference. Mrs. Paddy has been attending this conference for several years, but this is the first time I’ve been able to join her. I’m looking forward to it.
Fatwa -- it sounds like you and BK are handling this about as well as possible. Continued prayers that things get better.
We talked with Teh Younger yesterday. He has no plans at the moment to evacuate from Ian. He’s stocked up on food and water and borrowed a bunch of towels from work to put on the windowsills and at the bottom of the front door. He’s on the third floor, so he’s not worried about his apartment flooding.
Payback, revenge, retaliation – these are vital components of a civilized society because the need for score settling is inherent in human nature. A normal person simply cannot abide with being done a wrong and not receiving satisfaction.
Well. I managed to break my Atlas Pasta Motor attachment. Such a nice gift last Bday, from Harper. I’ve taken the old one apart and determined how to take better care of it. Unfortunately, they don’t make stuff like this like they used to. Plastic gears you know. So I have to be more careful my dough is flattened out quite a lot before rolling it in the machine.
Anyway, I ordered a new motor. There are companies that make better aftermarket parts, so maybe someone makes a set of steel gears for it that I can substitute onto the one I’ll be getting soon.
There are small mills and lathes that use plastic gears. The mills in particular are known for stripping or breaking them. There are metal gear sets sold to replace these in the better ones, or belt drive systems. I hope you can find something comparable..
I remember searching for parts while researching my Kitchenaid Mixer (which still works) But I remember finding a company that made metal versions of all the parts, so all I have to do is to find that company again or one like it, probably.
“But I ordered avocado toast!!1!”
Monday salutations, Wheelizens!
And Happy 5783. 😉
Sven --
Very sorry to read about your recent health carp and hope you recover quickly.
BK Update: Not-unanticipated nausea last night; she’d deliberately had nothing but clear broth. She’s sleeping right now; will keep y’all apprised.
=======================
I’m shocked the Swedes and Italians have elected (relatively) conservative leaders…how could that have happened?!?

Happy new year, Fatwa.
If you know, you know.
and happy new year.
And love to you both.
Thanks to all o’ ye…and right back atcha.

They started the Mussolini comparisons last night. (Not kidding.)
They were at it pretty much as soon as they thought she had a good chance of winning.
love him or hate him, this is a ball Donald Trump got rolling. And I feel like it will have an effect on world politics long after he’s gone.

Good luck to Teh Younger and others in Florida and along the east coast.
And safe travels and a wonderful trip, Paddy. Never been to Kansas.
Hey, Paddy!
Safe journeys to you and Mrs. O’.
And my Teh Younger have an uneventful Ian
Related to the Frosk Rant, Here is Chrissie Mayr on Friday Night Tights doing a hilarious Frosk impression.
Friday Night Tights is a long form stream hosted by Gary “NerdRotic” Biegler. It can be very addictive once you get the hang of it : )
“And her name wasn’t foreskin” That’s a classic line, but what a weird world.

Teh Younger is under mandatory evacuation. Fortunately, he has friends he can stay with that are in a non-evacuation zone.
I hope things go as well as can be hoped, there. Good journey to you and Mrs. Paddy as well.
Thanks, Mac. His friends all share his search and rescue background, so we’re not concerned about preparedness.
