I picked up Teh Older from the airport last night. His flight out of Atlanta was delayed for an hour -- they had to get a new plane. That put his arrival past the airport curfew for arrivals, but the FAA granted an exemption to hold the airport open for arrivals for an additional 30 minutes. At least he didn’t have divert to another airport or spend the night in the airport in Atlanta, but it makes for a long day for both of us.
Looking at the SoCal Gas website, I see that the core price for natural gas in December is 67.1% more than in December of 2021, which was 80.1% higher than December 2020. That represents an increase of 191.3% over two years. Thanks, Brandon.
Oh, and the goobermint is still trying to convince us that inflation is only 8%.
Yes, the airport is under curfew due to noise. There is also a limit on the number of flights and the noise level of individual aircraft. The take-off procedure is also a bit weird. The jet stands at the end of the runway and throttles up to full power while the pilot stands on the brakes. Once the plane reaches about 500 feet, the pilot reduces power to cut noise over the houses below, the restores power a few seconds later.
Since cities are mostly where the lefties live, my takeaway from this article is too bad -- so sad.
Without more-robust policies to address failing downtowns, cities are going to start hurting. Even small declines in foot traffic and real-estate use compounding over time will lead to reduced tax revenue and sales receipts for small businesses, ultimately affecting city budgets. And while city planners are reimagining downtowns, the impact on cities’ bottom lines has been devastating; in New York, for instance, the value of commercial real estate declined by 45% in 2020, and research suggests it will remain 39% below prepandemic levels.
Less economic activity in urban cores and a lower tax base could mean fewer jobs and reduced government services, perpetuating a vicious cycle that further reduces foot traffic in downtowns, leading to more decline, more crime, and a lower quality of life. For residents of many downtowns, ghost downtowns will be a visible infliction, and throngs of people crowding into a bus on a Monday morning will be apparitions of a recent past.
Good morning, GN.
Morning music.
Happy Tuesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!
Now we know who stole the walrus’ bucket.

Hi, Paddy -- we’ve been seeing our bills going up on the natural gas front too. Brandon and Newsom.
Drive-by:
Hi, Sven and Paddy!
That SoCal Gas pricing is appalling. If only there was something the gummint could have done to prevent it…
Glad Teh Older made it all the way home last night. Is the airport curfew due to noise?
BK had a consultation with her radiation doc this a.m.; seem like another good team at that office.
BBL.
Hi, Fatwa -- hoping for good news from the consultation.
In CA, govt is actively working to increase prices. To save the planet, or the children, or the red-legged frog.

I agree. This is what they wanted, so let them enjoy the full consequences of their choices.
I wonder if all the assholes who say that Jan 6 was an “insurrection” and “the greatest threat to our democracy ever” really believe that?
My feeling is that a lot of them do, but haven’t actually thought what that means.
