Good morning, GN. I’ve never made donuts -- difficult to do? I tried bagels one time -- difficult to do right. At least for me.
I didn’t plan on watching the SOTU last night, but I heard Mrs Sven swearing in the other room and sat in for the last half or so. Noticed that some in the audience were wearing 1870 pins and had no idea what hose were about. Google results say
Members of the Congressional Black Caucus and several other Democrats wore an “1870” button during the State of the Union. It commemorates the first known police killing of a freed Black American man, Henry Truman.
I haven’t seen it yet--the thread pic, not the contemptable pack of lies SOTU speech. Looking now. Gives me a ray of hope.
Heard lots of people making fun of the speech. Don’t care to hear Beijing Biden deliver it in its entirety; from the clips I heard, it sounded more like a campaign speech.
Happy Flippin’ Ray Wednesday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!
Sven -- I caught about the same amount of the SOTU as you did. I was. not. impressed. A few times I heard people shouting in the background, but I’ve no idea what they said. From some camera angles you could see the text of his speech. There looked to be about 8 sentences per page, in 20 point font, with huge amounts of spacing between the lines. When he flipped the pages, he often flipped several at once, not even looking at where he was. Content-wise, it seemed to be the usual lies and promises, along with blaming the Republicans for not being “bi-partisan”.
With the exception of guest stories, it was a bullet point speech and worthless bullshit. Politicians seem to think that by saying things like “it’s never a good bet to bet against America” or “diversity is our strength” that they magically form into reality.
Sarah Sanders did a good rebuttal speech though. I’m sure she’s gathering mounds of hate.
I tried to get through work as early as possible, because I had a delivery in the morning and in the afternoon, the appliance guy was coming to fix my dryer.
I did manage to get some sleep before my delivery, so that was great. Around 2:30pm, the appliance guy came by, and so now the dryer is working fine.
Now it’s time to put some stuff away and do some laundry.
ALSO:
I don’t remember if I told you all this, but the blower turbine/fan/impeller thingy for the dryer took a couple of weeks to come in, so I did end up doing a few loads of laundry and took them to our local laundromat to dry them. Their standard front loader was more than enough to dry one big load and two tiny loads all at once,
The lady there told me to put 5 quarters in them, in retrospect, 6 would have been better, I found that some of the waistbands were still wet when I got home, but no big deal. $1.25 to dry all those clothes.
BUT… there still is a Subway right next door, so I had a foot long, double meat + bacon sub, with jalapenos on it, and a soda. So that increased the total bill by $20. or so.
It was delicious and I generally eat 2/3 to 3/4 of a sandwich like that and give the rest to Harper, which I did do in this case, so I guess if I were doing the accounting, I’d have to figure in the value of not having to prepare a couple of meals as well.
BTW, here’s a video from folks that did the firearms training -- it’s got to be at least 10 years old though. We had to watch it before going out there. https://vimeo.com/180918017/e012729a31
Interesting video, thank you. I saved it. When I took the ten hour course here for a CCW it was mainly focused on when it was appropriate to carry, present, and shoot. There was no tactical type training, how to shoot, though you did have to pass a shooting qualification. If you took it with a revolver you could only carry a revolver, but taking it with an auto allowed either. They required .380 ACP minimum. You could arrange training if needed or desired. I passed all the tests and got the finger prints and photos, but waited too long to send them in. Now we have Constitutional carry. I think I just read that we have or are about to have 50% of the states with constitutional carry. Of course the media does not compare the violent crime in those States vs the more restrictive ones. Wonder why?
That’s a happy fish.

So, was David Hasselhoff your primary shooting instructor?
No, him and his wife are the owners -- one of his sons taught our class.
