A gracious Saturday evening to you all, Gerbil Nation!
Mrs. Paddy and I got back from Paradise this evening and have been unloading, putting away, etc. It was an excellent work trip and I’m very glad I went. There’s been a lot of growth in the town since the Camp fire swept through, but the presence of so many new buildings and homes just makes the vacant lots stand out even more. As you drive through town you can’t help but notice all the signs for various businesses standing at the front of a vacant lot. Only one-third of the pre-fire population presently inhabits Paradise and the surrounding communities.
An architect drew up plans for two bedroom and three bedroom homes that would be affordable and efficient to build and fit within the “fire-proof” requirements of the city. He’s giving the plans away to anyone who wants them. Lots of people are using the plans because the home can be built for less than $150k (combination of volunteer and paid labor). It would be great if the city government was being as generous, but they are charging $6k for building permits. In addition, as of the end of the month, anyone who hasn’t filed a building permit won’t be allowed to live in an RV on their property while their home is being built. A lot of people don’t have an extra $6k lying around and haven’t received any payout from PG&E, yet.
Oh, the last two days of work were over 100F. We had to start our painting early to make sure the paint would bind to the substrate (either wood or cement composite) before the surface film formed. If not, the paint bubbles and has to be scraped off.
Huh. Waking up next to a Texas girl…
!!!!!!
Summer is here -- 95+
Hi, Dv8
We show thunderstorms tomorrow but temps are still in the low 90s. Later in the week it should be 99 or so.

How sad, Paddy. My respects for the great work you all are doing.
