So, yeah, we both made it to church this Sunday. Had a nice time too. Pretty big gathering for us. Lots of visitors this time around. It’s always unpredictable, because it’s a tourist town, so there’s always a lot of visitors in town, so that means a lot of visitors in church.
Work is different for tomorrow. My Truck is coming in the morning, so I guess that’s when I will go in. It works out good with my weird sleep because it appears I’ll be awake this morning, so I can get the whole shebang done in the morning.
Happy Union Organizing Monday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, dv8 (and Harper!)!
dv8 -- I’m glad you and Harper made it to church yesterday. I’m also glad to hear that your sleep has been consistently better. That’s a goodness.
Mrs. Paddy and I are trying to get some things done around the house. I’ve got to run out to Home Despot to pick up some window screen to keep bees out of the storage bench on our deck. We put in a temporary solution when we removed the bees, but it’s time to go with something more permanent.
You’re welcome, Paddy -- I’ve often wondered what my grandfather, who died in 1964, would think of what the unions became in the latter half of the 20th century and beyond.
He was a civil engineer, or least had a degree in civil engineering, but was an outspoken opponent of the govt and fled to America around 1906. He was a socialist as well and got involved in the clothing workers union early on. Why that one, I don’t know. I know my grandfather on my mother’s side was a tailor, but I never heard of this grandfather doing a regular job. He did survive three assassination attempts, if family lore can be believed. I only have a couple of memories of him from my childhood.

Won’t that be nice?

From my grandfather’s union days.
Different times. Page 1-2 of my grandfather’s retirement speech -- this was from 1948
And the last two pages
Different times, indeed. Thanks for sharing.
