A blessed Sabbath, Gerbil Nation!
Happy St. Paddy’s day!
Mrs. Paddy and I will leave in the next half hour to meet the rest of the work team and begin our journey north. I’ll leave things in your capable hands.
On the insurance front, we’ve been with Farmers for more than 30 years and with a homeowners policy for almost 20. Our insurance agent is a friend that I’ve known for over 40 years -- she sold her business last year due to family obligations, but is still helping out as her replacement gets settled. She was the one that alerted us that our policy, expiring in June, won’t be renewed in its entirety. Previously, a Farmers assistant had called and clearly said that only fire wouldn’t be covered.
Following the other major insurance carriers, Farmers had announced late last year that they wouldn’t be writing new policies in California, and I knew that everyone in our area, and many others, were unable to find homeowners insurance, but I thought we’d be OK -- I wasn’t aware that they were getting out of the business entirely.
That really sucks. California makes fire conditions so bad that homes become uninsurable, but still require insurance. When worker’s comp. insurance became a crisis they formed State Compensation Company to sell insurance. Will they be doing that now for homeowners or just fine you because you can’t get it.
Before I got Medicare I could not afford medical insurance so we were paying a thousand dollars a year penalty on top of our medical bills. I do hate big government and politicians that want to control our lives.
I despise Farmers Insurance but at least you had some hope of coverage. I hate being in that squeeze. There were issues with flood insurance in Sacramento before
it sucks all the way around, Mac. We need to do some talking this week, get in touch with our new agent, and figure out what to do. My friend said the problem is, and it makes sense, is they can’t afford the huge losses that CA has experienced the last several years, but they can’t raise rates without with govt commission approval. It doesn’t bode well.
Sorry I haven’t been around so much. My job search, and my crappy attempt at it, keeps me fretting.
I actually found a sort of job that paid pretty well, but so far… I only got about one day of work. If I ever get completely onboarded… which may take a while, or which may never happen, the money would be excellent, but… So far it doesn’t appear like that is going to happen. But who knows.
I’m also looking for night desk positions at hotels. Sounds chill, but I’m so retarded that I don’t know how best to apply to those to increase my chances. So… I’m just sort of winging it.

Safe travels and productive work, Paddy.

So we got some thinking and figuring to do.

That sounds like how the state drove PG&E into bankruptcy before we left the state.
