I mentioned yesterday that I broke my toe -- I have no idea when or how it happened, but it’s likely that somehow cats were involved. It’s a smallish horizontal fracture on the outside side of the toe.
I gathered up all of our squirrel’s belongings over the weekend. Disposed some; stored some. A sad task. I had left his housing outside these past several days with the door open hoping that maybe he had somehow survived -- silly, I know -- but time to put away childish things.
They sold me a walking shoe, not so much for immobilization, but to keep me from bumping it. The pain has been relative -- what was keeping me up at night for the past week was mostly toe/joint swelling and pain, and they think that’s more of an arthritis thing than the broken toe. I went in yesterday thinking it was gout -- something my father suffered from in his later years -- and they ordered x-rays just to be thorough. The doctor was as surprised as I was that there was a fracture. Blood work results back in a couple of days and we’ll see what they say.
What’s annoying is that this year healthwise, I’d been getting good news that various ailments I’ve been seriously dealing with for the last five or so years were all looking good. Like I had turned a corner and now this.
Blood work results -- my uric acid is higher than it should be -- in the gout range -- so that’s probably a problem to work through. Logic:
Gout is a rich man’s disease
I have gout
Therefore, I am a rich man
Elena’s father has gout. Unfortunately the things better for gout tend to be bad for diabetics. It makes problems they are having a hard time sorting out. He is terrified of needles so he is kept on a rather rigid diet so he does not need insulin shots, but he is less active now because of the pain from the gout and other issues, so the sugar is harder to control.
Monday -- back to the grind.

Heh. Was just seeing if you were awake, Mac.

That’s got to be hard, Sven. I’m truly sorry.
Thanks, Paddy. Here he is on his last day.
Just a little guy.
Happy Monday, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven, and Mac!
Sven -- I’m sorry to hear about your toe. That has to be painful. Do you have to wear a boot or do anything to keep it immobilized?

Never argue against logic.

I’m sorry to hear about Elena’s father. I hope he can get both conditions under control.
