Happy Sunday, GN.

Thread pic: Love it!

We spent yesterday reviewing our finances and such and financially we are in good shape -- that matches what our financial advisors had told us, but it was good to walk it all through ourselves. Thirty-five years ago when we married, we barely had anything in the bank and nothing in savings. Not bad for a college dropout and a high school graduate to be where we are now.

I also talked to my brother and a friend about the work situation I find myself in. Bottom line, I’ve decided to give teh bestest place ever 2-week notice tomorrow. Last week, I was presented with a list of responsibilities and due dates that I had to meet. Doable? Yes, but not easily and my feeling (and Mrs Sven concurred) was that it was just a means to have me miss something that could then be used as justification to fire me once they had backfilled my position. Paranoid? Maybe, but I know how the politics work at this company and have seen similar stories play out with others over the years.

I’m also tired of the bullshit, lack of support, lack of direction, and unfulfilled promises of action that I’ve put up with from this department for a very long time. This new manager is my final straw. I could play along and maybe get through this year, but to what end? No good one that I can see.

So it goes.

A blessed Sabbath, Gerbil Nation!
Good morning, Sven!

Mac -- excellent thread pic!

Sven -- I’m sorry about the situation you find yourself in. You certainly called it right regarding what they would do to justify firing you. I’m glad you’re in a position to extricate yourself from a bad situation. No one needs to live in such a negative environment.

Thanks, Paddy -- it came down to I can do this, but why should I do this. The fear that’s held me back is possibly never working again, but if I retire now, and if Mrs Sven retires now, we can get by. Worse case, if I can’t another job, then OK.

Of course in the retirement scenario, Jack Tatum’s future is uncertain. He may have to start a Go Fund Me page.

Thanks, Mac -- in my younger days, I would have responded differently and not let it affect me as there would have been time to recover. Now that I’m much older, that time buffer is mostly gone. The one thing I’ve been aiming for is for Mrs Sven to be able to live comfortably if I die before her -- she won’t be taking cruises every year but she’ll be alright.

Teh bestest place ever uses Microsoft OneDrive for personal file backup. OneDrive is a private account, more or less, with access limited to the user’s account. When someone leaves, their OneDrive account is opened up to their manager for review. I just added a document to mine with the file name “mgr’sname_hostile_workplace_lawyer.docx” and the only text in it is “Ha! made you look!”

Mrs. Paddy heartily approves!

Since hollywood can’t come up with any new movie ideas, I wonder if any studio is considering a woke remake of Die Hard? Joan McClane is a NY cop flying out to meet her estranged husband who is a sales manager at some corporation that gets taken over by MAGA terrorists.
